It is a bit premature until France and Croatia play out the final, but I would say the best teams in this tournament were: France, Belgium, Brazil and Croatia, followed by Spain, Uruguay and then England.

Congrats to Belguim. I had predicted them to flop. They proved me wrong. They had a good tournament.
England on the other hand did overrall ok in this tournament. I strongly believe that they wouldn't have reached this stage if James was fit. Colombia was just another team without him. Nobody can deny this.

    Stock goin up:

Pickford. Great shot saver and distributor.
McGuire. An anchor for any back line.

Chadli. I thought he was as close to DeB and AH on a creative level as anyone on the team.

Both these teams will be back next WC and every competition til then.

By their standards, they weren't impressive at all and were, in fact, quite poor. But they went out undefeated and, truth be told, while they totally lacked creativity and urgency for the first 80 minutes against Russia, they did enough afterwards to have perhaps deserved beating them.

Besides, Spain is probably the only team which practically everyone bunkers against. Which does make it harder for a side to shine. All that said, I totally understand if others would rank them lower than I have. But my view is that even in their poor form, they were still better than the teams I ranked behind them.

Probably not. Companies usually get insurance when they do this, so it likely cost them the same whether Belgium scored 16 goals as it would have if they hadn’t.

If tomorrow France beats Croatia without suffering, this WC will be remembered as the one with the most unbalanced brackets. Shame.

I hope France wins easily tomorrow, so that it will generally be acknowledged that Belgium was the second best team at this World Cup.

About the same ages as the Croatian nucleus are now. It's certainly possible.

Although, the entire back line (other than Courtois) will have to be replaced.

I was in D104 block behind the goal and the English fans were amazing. There was music and singing almost all through out the match and it was fantastic. Looking forward to seeing England in the next edition.
