Since we're now the CHAMPIONS once again it's time for the transfer rumors to officially begin. Make sure to include a link on any rumored transfers in or out no matter how ridiculous and then we'll see how many actually happen. Taken from the Van Persie thread I'll start it with Robin Van Persie from Feyenoord: http://www.soccerage.com/en/13/u6201.html http://www.skysports.com/skysports/article/0,,40-1132515,00.html http://www.teamtalk.com/teamtalk/News/Story_Page/0,7760,817231,00.html http://www.voetbalzone.nl/doc.asp?id=12092 From the reports it looks less like a rumor and more like we'll be finding out within a week if this will happen or not as we've been hearing from Van Persie, Feyenoord and numerous sources.
I know these have already been talked about but since this is the "OFFICIAL" transfer thread I figured I might as well post them here. From football365.com Trezegut to talk to Arsenal & Chelsea and Van persey has already been signed http://www.football365.com/news/transfer_gossip/story_107893.shtml & Shaun Wright-Phillips for 7 mil http://www.football365.com/news/transfer_gossip/story_107809.shtml
Here's Wenger saying there won't be a spending spree this summer. And in the same article it says we might be going after a new keeper. Namely, Fabien Barthez or Edwin van der Sar. http://www.skysports.com/skysports/article/0,,40-1132597,00.html
I have no links, purely speculation from my sick brain.... get a CB (Mexes), move Toure to RB... sign Paddy Kliuvert on a free... Pius Ikedia as cover..... just wanted to get in this thread early~~~ cheers~~~~~~~~~~~ phishy~
I would be happy with just Van Persie, Wright-Phillips and van der Sar for the whole summer. Let the young players get a chance to prove their worth; it'll cost the club less overall.
Sochaux's midfield star Benoit Pedretti has issued a 'come-and-get-me' plea to Arsene Wenger at Arsenal. http://www.skysports.com/skysports/article/0,,40-1131701,00.html
Pure speculation with nothing to back it up (so similar to the British Press then!!) In Kluivert or Morientes or Alan Smith Beckham or Van Persie Some unknown centre back that nobody has heard of yet..... Out Wiltord Kanu Jeffers Pennant Gio Ljungberg
Beckham's an interesting one, though it probably depends on where his current mistress is living. This was posted in it's own thread, but I'll officially make it a rumor here. http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390000-2004191417,00.html The wonderful fiction writers at the Sun insist that we'll sign both Steven Gerrard AND John Terry over the summer. I'd love to bring Terry in, but I'm not sure where we'd put him, as Toure and Lauren both are coming off amazing seasons, while Sol and Cole are obviously not going anywhere. Gerrard I'm not sure about, just from a character standpoint.
I wouldn't mind seeing Gerrard in the side, but I'd take a pass on Terry. I suppose it doesn't matter anyway, none of those two will be bought by Arsene, and probably not sold at all.
Christ, if we sign Barthez, I say someone's secretly dosing Wenger with crack. And is van der Sar THAT much better?! I say a legitimate replacement, not a quickfix. IMHO, there needs to be a signing that can jazz up the back four that (occasionally) looked a bit suspect in a few games down the stretch. I don't really think Van Persie would be worth it unless it's a steal, for depth is needed elsewhere. . .
And now we're in for Michael Owen at 12 mil. http://www.football365.com/news/transfer_gossip/story_108062.shtml
I have heard from the Eredivise forum, that Van Persie has a bit of a temper and is inconsistent.....sounds like the Dutch Alan Smith...wink.
Why in the hell would we be interested in Michael Owen? Not ragging you, slippery, but Football365. We already have Michael Owen, and his name is Jose Antonio Reyes. Plus, Wenger's just announced budget for the summer is 15 million pounds. Why blow 12 on Owen, especially since we have (more than likely) already commited 7 million for van Persie?
is this true?? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! dont waste that sorta coin on Van Persie!!! hello franny jeffers!
No. I posted a translated article from http://www.voetbalzone.nl/ in the Van Persie rumour thread (sourced from a generally reliable Dutch newspaper) stating that Arsenal has already tabled an offer of 4.8mil euros, not pounds, and that the ball is in Van Persie's court. http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/sport/football/articles/10451548 is reporting that Wenger has 15mil pounds to spend and the Van Persie offer was 3mil pounds - close - as well.
Not a worry. Part of the fun of this thread is saying, "Why the hell would we do that???" while ragging on those rags.
That's an interesting little article for a couple of reasons. First, look at how much we spent last year on Lehmann, Cesc, Clichy, Senderos and Reyes combined! Second it says that Keown will be out this summer after his Testimonial and that West Ham is interested in him.
We've just won the EPL and been hailed as one of the outstanding teams of the century. What player wouldn't want to play for us right now? Every agent in the game will be leaking rumours to the press, and putting us in the frame, to up the interest and value of their merchandise! I do have a gut feeling that Reyes (coach is right about Owen) is not the end of the story and we could see a headline grabbing big move coming our way. Maybe one from Beckham, Gerrard, Woodgate, Southgate, Carr, Smith or Anelka or a very outside Rooney? Where's Larsson going? I've been impressed by Thomas Hitzlsperger at Villa. I'm not sure where in midfield he's most comfortable, but I think he's definitely a player to watch for the future?
we've handed a trial to 23-year-old landskrona goalkeeper jonas sandkvist: http://www.skysports.com/skysports/article/0,,40-1132854,00.html and also report that says wenger will only make one major signing this season (does he ever make more than one?) and it will only be for a "gem" http://www.skysports.com/skysports/article/0,,40-1132879,00.html
And within a day of starting this thread we can already cross off one rumored name from the list. Barthez signed a 2 year deal with Marseille. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=298514&cc=5901
