I think the writer/agent is unfamiliar with US soccer economics. No NASL team is coming up with that sort of scratch for anyone. That converts to $9.15M over two years. I think everyone is dreaming of "Giovinco Bucks".
As they should if they have bargaining power and are proven top 4 league players. See, that's the downside of some of these DP contracts. Potential DP's will demand the same as that's the money MLS now says top DP's are worth. And, if MLS doesn't change it's salary structure and raise the cap a fair amount, the top heavy model will get more out of control.
