UNBELIEVABLE! 88th minutes...Jamaica has turned the tables...up 3-2 Radio Unica announcers are surprised themselves By the way, i ain't joking
That will keep the presure on the US. (Good IMHO) If either Jam or Sal ( Sal by 3+) win then the US has to win to go through without a playoff.
hmm... US 3 - Jam 0 Jam 3 - Guat 2 punching that into the Treetaliano BigSoccer calcualtor I get USA 6 - Guat 1 Adu atones for not scoring with a hat-trick
what in the hell are you still doing up? i would never have guessed that jamaica could beat guatamala especially after the poor performance they brought against the united states...this is a team that didnt really come close to scoring against us and they put 3 in against guatamala. wow.
Here's what I come up with: US win -- US through to finals US draw, Jam/ES draw -- US through to finals US draw, Jam beats ES -- US to playoff US draw, ES beats Jam -- depends on GD between ES and US US lose, Jam/ES draw -- depends on GD between US and Jam US lose, Jamaica or ES win -- US to playoff The good news is that the US can't do worse than second. More good news is that if the US win, they're through, and if they draw they're through in likely 2/3 scenarios (unless ES beats Jam by more than three). Odds favor us but still have to get it done on the pitch. I feel pretty confident, though disappointed by the showing against ES.
What if Jamaica or El Salvador win, and Guatemala beats the U.S. by 2 goals or more. Wouldn't that put the U.S. in 3rd?
you're forgetting Guatemala in those last two scenarios you have. I think we CAN do worse than 2nd. on matchtracker they said the first tiebreaker for this event is head to head. If guatemala beats us sunday, and there is a winner in the first game, we are tied for 2nd with 4 points, but lose the tiebreaker with guatemala. if guatemala beats us and the first match is a draw, then its 3 teams with 4 points and i guess it goes to goal difference....anybody? (that would probably make us the champion unless guatemala beat us by more than 3). Just win baby.
oops...correction; that should be: ...but if Guat beats us by more than 5 goals, JAM goes to playoff and we are third and out.
Do I understand this correctly - Guatemala took a 2-0 lead against El Salvador but blew it and the game ended tied at 2; then they took a 2-0 lead against Jamaica and lost 3-2? Man, they have less stamina then my old man before viagra. (sorry for the image!) Suffice to say, the US should be ready for Hwatamala to charge out of the gate like a kid after prom. If they can weather the early storm, they should be OK. And, if they don't Ellinger can't let them panic as the Guats obviously have trouble holding onto leads. As GersMan and others said, we can still finish third. If El Salvador beats Jamaica, the Sallies have 5 points. If the Reggae Boyz win, they have 6 points. If the US loses to Guatemla, both teams will have 4 points but the Guats will have the head-to-head tiebreaker. If we tie, the worst we can do is finish second and a tie gets us into first place if El Salvador and Jamaica tie OR El Salvador beats Jamaica by 2 goals or less. If El Salvador wins by 3 goals and the US ties, then the tie-breaker will be total goals scored so who finishes first will depend on the actual number of goals scored by each team (the third tie-breaker after head-to-head and goal differential.) All in all, the US is acutally in good shape. But, as GersMan said, just win, baby, as that leaves us with nothing to worry about.
according to today's Prensa Libre (guatemala's biggest daily), Guatemala was winning 2-1 in the 89th minute! They gave up two goals in a row to the Jamaicans off consecutive corner kicks to lose.
this is from the concacaf website regarding tie breakers: http://www.concacaf.com/statutes/u17/enrules.php?id=17 At the end of group play, if two or more teams are equal on points (including ties among third place teams), the manner in which teams will advance to the next round will be resolved as follows and in the order indicated: The result of head-to-head competition between the two tied teams; The difference between goals for and goals against from all group matches; The team having scored the most goals from all group matches; Failing this, the qualified team shall be determined by a drawing of lots carried out by a member of the Organizing Committee
Looks like this group is a lot more evenly matched than anyone though. We win and go through it sounds like.
