3/28: Freedom v Univ. of Cincinnati & Xavier

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The University of Cincinnati women’s soccer team will host the Washington Freedom of the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA) and Xavier University in an exhibition game in Nippert Stadium on Sunday, March 28th at 1 p.m. Cincinnati and Xavier will scrimmage each other for one half, and each team will play one half against the Freedom. There will be a 20 minute autograph session following the event.

The Washington Freedom will play in events next month in Cincinnati and Louisville, Ky., with a team that features U.S. national-teamers Abby Wambach, Christie Rampone and Heather Mitts.

"It all started with an opportunity in Cincinnati to run a camp and play an exhibition game," said Freedom coach Jim Gabarra. "The University of Louisville said, 'We're right here [90 miles away], come play us. There's a decent appearance fee for the players, and it's good to get some players some games."

Gabarra, who has kept the Freedom's camps and youth program intact, said forward Mia Hamm had been interested but begged off when the opening of the U.S. women's residency in Southern California was scheduled for April 1.
