IIRC, the second leg has to be played by April 16, so they may not have a lot of scheduling options left.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Crew try to have some type of School day with this game. The concept is the new big thing in pro sports. Hosting some type of big school out in conjunction with a game. But then again they're probably just afraid of the large crowd that would come down from Chicago to support Morelia.
Hahah I did think of the school day thing too, but neglected to mention it in my earlier post. Otherwise, this is going to end up being basically a closed doors event. I assume that crew fans have jobs too.
Had not heard anything in a couple weeks on the Frisco situation. Nice to see Garber in town making the case. Hopefully they're also scouting hardware stores to pick out shovels. Also from the DMN: "Garber said the league is close to announcing a significant expansion of its TV package in a deal with Fox Sports World, a network long bullish on international soccer. The package is expected to include a Saturday night game of the week and a weekly hour-long highlight show." Next week supposedly.
Two things: Morelia's weekday home matches are often during the daytime. This may be for TV purposes in Mexico. Two: having it during the day may also make it very difficult for the Morelia fans to travel to come to the matc, from Columbus or elsewhere. Difficult for the Crew fans too, but they live in the city.
You should get Halliburton to buy the naming rights. I hear they are going to have some serious cash flow soon.
I know. Could you believe the first contract they gave for Iraq went to them. Totally pathetic. These people have no scorn.
Not to sound like the bleeding Republican that I am, but what would you do if you owned a multi billion dollar oil firm? Would you give it to your competition???? Hell no!! Most of you would do the same exact thing. So relax and don't be such hypocrites!!
Actually, I'm something of an expert in this area. I have strong opinions, and handing contracts out to politcally connected businesses is an absolute no no. However, it does go on all the time, sadly, which is a real pain in the butt for me and my coworkers, let me tell you. Now I need to get back to working.
Not to sound too much like a Republican billionaire, but . . . how many companies are there (in the US or even in the World) that are set up to do what the government has contracted Halliburton to do? I think that putting out oil well fires is a pretty specialized business. There are not many trained people in the world. Halliburton did it after the first gulf war (or to be more accurate, I think it was Red Adair's company which has since been purchased by Halliburton). Anyway. If the Republicans really wanted to enrich Halliburton, they would have been smarter to let/encourage the Iraqis to set fire to their wells and tear everything up. Because Halliburton then would have a lot more mess/work/money on their hands. As it is, it shouldn't take too much to get the Iraqi fields back on line. Political drivel off.
If we're just talking about fighting oil fires, there are a number of companies that are in that industry, including Boots and Coots (who are subcontracted by KBR and doing it), Wild Well Control (also subcontracted by KBR) and Williams Fire and Hazard Control (I'm not sure if they're involved or not). KBR (Kellogg Brown & Root, an oil services component of Haliburton) is not in the oil fire fighting business. They are just managing the subcontracts and skimming off the top. It's classic government contracting, frankly, and it ought to be changed, but that doesn't mean it will. The big problem is that the contract was awarded to KBR by the Corps of Engineers without ever being solicited for bid. It should have been solicited to the various oil services companies (of which there are many) and bid appropriately. But this is all massively off topic.
Let's hope he does recover and can play again. "West, however, remains angered by the foul, which resulted in a red card and ejection for Stoitchkov. He said he has watched videotape of the play about a dozen times, and "I was hoping it would make things make more sense, but it hasn't for me. I don't know what could be going on in someone's brain. . . . I think [Stoitchkov] is sorry for what happened. He didn't intend to break a leg, but I think he wanted a piece of someone, and it happened to be Freddy."
Neither do I. I just think it would be a funny thread title. Go with "In the Park Where I Play Pope" instead!
El Crew de Columbus Someone pointed out over in the Concacaf forum that Mexico's TV Azteca carried Morelia's last game against Comunicaciones. TV Azteca runs Azteca America in the US, so it's possible that they may show one or both of the Morelia x Crew games. Last year, Azteca America showed the final of this tourney, so there's at least some precedent. But I don't know if Azteca America showed the recent Morelia x Comunicaciones game - it wasn't listed on their schedule. Azteca America currently has stations in only a few states, but I think you can get it on one or more of the satellite packages. In any event, it may be worth checking as the dates near if it's an option for you. You can find their schedule (programacion) and stations (cobertura) at www.aztecaamerica.com (plus, I like how they re-drew the state boundaries on their station maps ).
