From LA Times article:

FIFA also has cut the number of international friendly dates in the new international calendar set to take effect in 2004. By eliminating the increasingly meaningless games, FIFA will reduce some of the pressure on players to show up every time the national team calls.

Won't having less national team games actually increase the pressure on players to show up for those remaining games?
