3/11 Empoli Vs Lazio + 6/11 Reggina Vs Lazio: pre and post match thread

    Come one come all.

This weekend see's week 8 game Empoli Vs Lazio and then the season finaly gets underway on Wednesday as week 1 games are finally played, and our beloved Lazio will be away to Reggina.

I would of just made the one thread for each game but these games are hardly eyecatching spectaculers, an added bonus is that as soon as we are finnished discussing sundays game we can look forward straight away to another three points on Wednesday without waiting for another thread to apear.

Not much news as of yet apart from Fiore claiming that his recent form has been good enough for him to earn a place in the next azzurri squad.

IMHO he is right and deserves to be there every international game.

thats it for now more news as it comes.

Fiore, even in his bad form, is better than almost every other Italian midfielder and should be irreplaceable in the Azzurri lineup. But, Trap went for Doni instead.

That being said, I think Lazio play the best football in Italy besides Milan. They attack and have flair and a solid defence. If Chiesa gets back to his former self. . . they'll finish in the top four IMO.

That's been my thought for a while, a healthy Chiesa instead of bumbling S.Inzaghi up from makes all the difference...

On current form you have to expect six points from these next two matches....

Anything but 6 points would be a disaster

I know both games are away from home but they are games we need to win in order to be real scudetto contenders.

A take no prisoners attitude is the kind of mentality needed for these games, that and a few goals and we should be sorted.

"Lazio" and "Scudetto" in the same sentence - and you're NOT talking about three years ago? Getting mighty optimistic, aren't you?

The only way Lazio have any chance at all to challenge for the scudetto is if Milan, Roma, Juve, and Inter all make it to the quarterfinals of the CL and are too preoccupied with europe. Anything is possible, if Chievo can come within one game of making it to the CL than Lazio can certainly win the scudetto. But I think their real goal this year is getting that 4th spot to get back to the CL.

In football there is always hope.

I doubt three years ago many people expect Lazio to win serie a. Plus this season has started much better than most people expected, and i belive we can carry it through to the end of the season.

Infact i will go on the record now and predict that by April it will be Milan and Lazio fighting it out for Lo Scudetto and maybe juventus will be hovering around somewhere. The other two contenders, Roma and Inter have yet to impress me.

Well, we'll see. Perhaps you're right. I don't think too many people - even diehard fans like yourself -would've expected this kind of talk anytime this season just after the Crespo/Nesta fire sale at the start of the season.

Nice to see some traffic on the Lazio boards these days.

Here is what the word on the web is as of what the line ups to tomorows game will be. Remember there not official so there nott 100% accurate.

    Empoli
    (4-2-3-1)
    Berti,
    Belleri, Cribari, Atzori, Lucchini,
    Giampieretti, Grella,
    Rocchi, Vannucchi, Di Natale,
    Saudati.

    Lazio
    (4-4-2):
    Peruzzi,
    Pancaro, Negro, Mihajlovic, Favalli,
    Fiore, Simeone, Stankovic, Cesar,
    Corradi, Lopez.

Looks like Simone is returning and at a good time to, all these games coming thick and fast at the moment means we need the whole squad ready and waiting incase of any emergancy or injuries.

I'm guessing you meant SimEone, and not "Simone" as in Inzaghi, who likely will be returning as well ...... to the bench.

yeah thats the one sue. My spelling will get me into trouble one day. Speaking of simone inzaghi why the hell dont they just sell him off and buy some one decent a one legged man with a blindfold would be better up front than him. Sell him to some poor side in Serie B for half a million and i would be happy.

Not much news on the game yet, More later.

Corradi scores for Lazio on the 44th minute but Empoli reply with a goal in the middle of stoppage time on the 46th scorred by defender atzori.

half time at the minute and lazio fans can only take joy in the fact that Roma are getting beat 2-0 by Perugia. Come on Lazio we need to win this game.

A 2-1 victory, three more points, but far from Lazio's best this season....la gazzetta player ratings:

    Peruzzi 6.5
    - Concetti 6.5
    Pancaro 5.5
    Negro 6.5
    Mihajlovic 6
    Favalli 6
    Stankovic 7
    Simeone 6
    Liverani 5.5
    - Lopez 7
    Cesar 4.5
    Corradi 6.5

    Today vs Reggina

Looks like the Lazio lineup is this:

Concetti to start in goal with the 2 keeper injuries, while Lopez and Corradi up top.

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/soccernet/preview?matchID=70688&leagueCup=ITA.1

Giuseppe Pancaro will accompany Paolo Negro, Sinisa Mihajlovic and Giuseppe Favalli in the four-man defence.

In the Biancoceleste midfield Stefano Fiore will play with Diego Simeone, Dejan Stankovic and Cesar.

Dont know wether it is me or you but one of us has got it wrong, these are the teams i got.

    Reggina
    (4-3-1-2)
    Castellazzi,
    Cirillo, Jirinek, Pierini, Morabito
    Cozza, Paredes, Mozart
    Nakamura Bogdani,
    Rastelli.

    Lazio
    (4-4-2):
    Peruzzi,
    Oddo, Couto, Mihajlovic, Favalli;
    Fiore, Simeone, Stankovic, Sorin;
    Corradi, Lopez.

Which ever team turns out to be the correct one they should still be able to dominate reggina and pick up the win and vital 3 points.

Lazio take the lead on the 17 minute. Fiore scored the gol and using my great knowledge of italian(yeah ;)) i think it was a strong shot from atleast 30 yards out.

Come on nice start lets improve on this.

Another goal for lazio this time scored by stankovic on the 33 minute.

i agree Fiore has been destroying all in his path at present. i just hope he can keep it up for the rest of the season.
