I just noticed that Sinisa Ubiparipovic is Cleveland State's HC. I remember when he played at Akron and he was Akron's first player drafted in the MLS Super Draft. Ubiparipovic is a native of Yugoslavia and his family moved to Belgrade to get away from the Bosnian War. They eventually made it to Cleveland and he wet to Mentor High School before going to U of Illinois-Chicago. He attended UIC for one year before transferring to Akron. CSU is traditionally a program that recruited kids from Cleveland's large Eastern European Community. It will be interesting to see if Ubiparipovic continues that tradition and, even, strengthens it. The kids in the E European community in Cleveland are excellent soccer players and I never understood why Akron didn't recruit those kids more heavily. The kids are now mostly 2nd and 3rd generation from migrant families, soccer is still very much a part of their upbringing.
Thanks for "working" so hard, going through the media guide. I think that the Cleveland State GK was Stuver who while wearing a garish pink jersey simply stood on his head to stop the dominating Zips. Memories fade.... Also, Howard was a powerhouse in the 70s and 80's (again see above concerning memories). I believe that they won a national championship. Now, they struggle and I'm a big fan of coach Phillip Gyau and I hope he cane put it together.
Agreed. Some of the best players I ever played with and/or against come from Eastern European parents who immigrated to NEO. Zips Nation are very proud of Sinisa Ubiparipovic and all he has accomplished. Me thinks we have not yet seen his best. Soccer is alive and well in NEO.
Less than believable, really. Akron Earns Right to Host MAC Men's Soccer Championship. https://gozips.com/news/2019/11/5/akron-earns-right-to-host-mac-mens-soccer-championship.aspx
Hopefully this will be the turning point for them and they'll have a successful "2nd part" of the season. From the article at gozips: Package prices for the two possible games (MAC Semifinal, MAC Final) are $30/seat for reserved seats, and $20 for general admission. Free for all MAC students with a valid school ID. Single-game prices are $20/seat for reserved seats, and $10 for general admission. Those prices seem high to me. I went to a MAC semifinal game of Akron vs Bowling Green at FirstEnergy in 2012, Porter's last year, and I do not remember it being $10 for general admission. Have prices really gone up that much? The best way to go if you want to sit in reserved, obviously, is the package. You would save $10. If you're an Akron fan, though, that's a little bit risky with how they've played this season ("risky" is relative as we're only talking about a $10 difference and/or possibly wasting a ticket that was paid for). I also went to the 2015 Elite 8 game vs Creighton at FirstEnergy. We sat in reserved and I don't remember paying $20 for the ticket. Are MAC tournament games more expensive than NCAA games?
This word might be the legacy I will leave to this forum! Thanks fknbuflobo: you make me proud of my…. industrial…. Froglish

Akron Men's Soccer to Host Winter ID Camps. https://gozips.com/news/2019/12/4/akron-mens-soccer-to-host-winter-id-camps.aspx Zips really need to find a "diamond in the rough."
What's up with the transfers? Keepers Tor Saunders is going to Coastal Carolina and Ricardo Ceballos to High Point. Mani Austmann to UNC Greensboro. It does look like the Zips picked up a keeper from Louisville - Will Meyer. He's a local guy from Solon. Does anyone know anything about him? A good trade-off for Saunders? The Zips also picked up Hazem Sobhy from Ottawa College in Arizona. He's Egyptian. Mo Salah, one of my favorite players, is Egyptian so maybe that's a good omen. Ottawa is an NAIA school and there are a lot of good NAIA players so maybe he'll be a good pick up and that "diamond in the rough" you've mentioned, fknbuflobo. I don't think Austmann got a fair shake last season. Maybe I didn't see enough games and am wrong. In the early season vs Xavier, Mani was pulled off for a relatively minor error. I thought that Skye Garter, normally really solid, had a much worse game and got a lot more minutes. Regardless, hopefully 2020 brings better things for the Zips.
^ Harter* It autocorrected to "Garter" and the editing software on this forum sucks since it doesn't allow edits to be made after a time.
