While the other group would be:

    Korea Republic
    Korea DPR
    Bahrain
    Qatar
    United Arab Emirates

    Well, that's a bit off topic :)

Exactly. The likely seeding format for the final round of 2014 WCQ is:

    • Top Seeds: Japan (1) , South Korea (2)
    • Second Seeds: Australia (3), North Korea (4)
    • Third Seeds: Bahrain (5), Saudi Arabia (6)
    • Fourth Seeds: Iran (7), Qatar (8)
    • Fifth Seeds: Uzbekistan (9), UAE (10), everyone else

Actually, based on the draw mechanics used for the 2010 WCQ fourth round, the last two pots are combined. So it looks like this:

    Pot A: Japan, Korea Republic
    Pot B: Australia, Korea DPR
    Pot C: Bahrain, Saudi Arabia
Pot D: Iran, Qatar, Uzbekistan, United Arab Emirates.

You are right. I wish they could somehow update the format though, to take into consideration the FIFA ranking as well. That could make the final groups a bit more balanced.

You may have you're wish here. FIFA seem to be pushing for the rankings to be used for seeding all the time. They pushed UEFA into using them for their playoffs and also used them exclusively for seedings in the World Cup itself, rather than the formula. By the time the WCQs arrive it may well be mandatory to use FIFA rankings for seeding teams.

ouch tought match for Uzbekistan- the defense and goalkeeper made horrible mistakes all game long. Why wasn't Geynrich playing, was he injured, suspended?

How much did Australia's world ranking improve after the thrashing they dealt the Uzbeks?

We are in 109 place, so I don't think that you got many points;)
Would it be vise-versa, than Uzbekistan definitely would be in top 50 now. :)

I don't think goal difference in a game is a multiplier in FIFA rankings. Just x3 for win, x1 for draw and x0 for loss. Pretty sure its no different than beating uzbekistan 1-0.

Wezza, I think this thread just magnifies the lack of respect that many Asian fans truly have for some of the so-called "mid-level" teams.

*We finish on top of the Group of Death (3 of the top 5 teams from WCQ), but that's considered easy.
*We knock out the 2007 Asian Champions (Iraq) but that's considered an "easy game" but most Asian fans, even though we were less confident than many here.
*We put 6 goals past one of the form teams of this comp but they are now considered "an easy team".

An imbalance of true knowledge and arrogance from many is the biggest problem we face ............... and hate. :(

LOL @ "the Group of Death" designation. Yes, a group decided by how many more goals team X or Y could score against the Asian powerhouse that is India was indeed the "the Group of Death".

Get over yourselves, you had an easy route to the final, that's a fact. If you manage to beat Japan, you deserve it all. But don't pretend like you had a difficult route to the final, that's just laughable. Your knock-out stage bracket consisted of Iraq (ranked 8th in AFC), Uzbekistan (14th), and Jordan (13th), while the other side consisted of Japan (2nd), South Korea (3rd), Iran (4th), and Qatar (12th). Do the math yourselves.

Iraq won the AFC 07 so they cant be that bad. Wish Australia had the easy beats in group D!lol

You fail to see Australia got the better run to the final because it performed better than Korea in the group stages. Its a sad day in sport when those that dont do better fail to get an advantage from it. Think Iran supporters are very against Australia being in the AFC as Iran will be doomed to 4th and below for a very long time!:D taking tongue out of firm position in cheek.

I sure feel for the Uzbek fans, they deserved better from there team.

Rankings are based on a longer period average, whereas these current seedings that are used in Asia are based on 1 WC Tournament where there is the "luck of the draw" element.

It makes far more sense to use the FIFA / European model of rankings. It would also be strange for Aust to not be in the top 2 seedings considering their A-Team have not lost a match in Asia for nearly 4 years.

It was the "Group of Death" because it had 3 of the top 5 teams from the WCQ. How hard is that to understand? It's not that hard, it's just that you have failed to acknowledge it, again. No mention of India came into it from me but you chose to add that. Pathetic. No mention that we drew with and topped a Group containind South Korea, the knocked your PATHETIC mob out.:D

Maybe we should apologise for finishing first and giving ourselves that draw?
I see you've forgotten to acknowledge and Saudis were knocked out in this side of the draw, it can't be that easy a draw can it? Or are you just being arrogant again?
You also continue to show contempt for Iraq, the current Asian Champions. Arrogance continues:(
