As some have pointed out recently, the Rapids need help at LB; I would add CB as well. Will Cannon help at both positions?
There's a solid list of former FC Dallas players who've joined the #Rapids96 & have gone on to have great careers as Burgundy Boys:-Drew Moor-Michael Barrios-Kellyn AcostaAnd now, potentially, one more: Reggie Cannon. As one r/MLS user succinctly said: pic.twitter.com/G0DiT7Ayzw— Brendan Ploen (@BrendanPloen) September 11, 2024

The Rapids just sent out the official announcement. Signed through 2027 with an option for 2028. That makes Cannon, Mihailovic, Basset, Vines, and Navarro all signed through 2027, with Steffen signed through 2026.
A few details in the release from the Rapids on Cannon - OFFICIAL: The club has signed Reggie Cannon to a three-and-a-half-year contract through the 2027 season.Welcome to the Rocky Mountains, @ReggieCannon15🏔️📰» https://t.co/2faBAhVmDt#Rapids96 pic.twitter.com/qcPYumY9v4— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) September 11, 2024
He can also play RM in a pinch. Solid signing that gives the roster a much needed boost and forces some competition at a few positions.
Yeah, the more I've thought about this, the more I like the move. Cannon is a good 'Swiss Army Knife' in that he can technically play in a number of positions. He's probably at his best as an overlapping wingback - which to your point forces a lot of competition - but can also be utilized around the pitch. Much needed signing, and a long enough contract to go with it. Based on our roster build I wonder what his salary / status will be. TAM maybe? Or, if he's fallen out of favor and playtime an under TAM contract to get his feet back under him might also be on the table. He played 21 games and had 16 starts out of a possible 48 matches for QPR - who finished 18th out of 24 teams - so an under TAM free agent contract might not be out of the question here

I think that this stat right here sums up the difference in this team this year than in the last 5-10 years at least: Most points gained from losing positions in MLS this season:1. Inter Miami — 272. Colorado Rapids — 193. D.C. United — 16T-4. Real Salt Lake — 15T-4. Austin FC — 15T-4. Orlando City — 15 pic.twitter.com/GeaSA1lROA— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) September 16, 2024 We don’t have that “roll over and die” mentality when we go down in matches. In fact, the opposite is true and we’re second only to Miami’s star studded roster in points gained from losing positions (meaning, we were down a goal or more and came back to win or tie). We’re in 3rd place for a reason. There’s a heart in the guys this season that you don’t see very often for a burgundy team. The “I didn’t hear no bell” Tifo was perfect. Armas has revolutionized the locker room this season - and it shows.
Funny thing is, both Miami and Colorado get to claim a point in that stat from their head to head meeting. (Rapids went up 1-0, went down 2-1, and tied 2-2, so both teams trailed and led in the match)
Which is crazy to think that THE RAPIDS are one of the four points Miami has dropped all season from a winning position: Fewest points dropping from winning positions:1. FC Cincinnati — 32. Inter Miami — 43. Chicago Fire — 7T-4. Austin FC — 8T-4. LAFC — 8 https://t.co/qD06jFj0gz— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) September 16, 2024 Messi was on the field for that one too - and yet, it was Bassett in the 88th minute who put the finishing touch on the match What a crazy turnaround this season has brought us so far
