Deal is done! Here's some more trade talk... Metros acquire Pope - North Jersey Herald News Trade carousel begins rolling - North Jersey Herald News Metros overhaul begins with a bang - New York Daily News MetroStars deal Petke for Pope - Daily Record
This is as good a place as any to say I find it odd these trades are even happening right now, two days before Christmas. Compare it with the NHL, which has a trade hiatus period of about 5 days around Christmas, so that players can at least get through the holiday without wondering when and if they're going to be traded. Or in the case of Petke, Pope, Moreno and Williams, finding out they've already been traded a day before Christmas. Maybe it's a little less of a jolt since it's the offseason, and these players don't have to move right away. But you'd still think the league could put a moratorium in for a few days anyway.
you're probably not going to hear too much from him until after he tries to get on with some teams in england (and that fails, if it does)
I've read that everyone has to be cap-compliant by the first week of January (the 3rd?), so a few more dominos may fall over the holidays.
"In addition, Hudson said negotiations have begun in an attempt to acquire Argentine forward Aldo Osorio from the Italian club Lecce, and that he will speak soon with U.S. national team forward Joe-Max Moore, a three-time World Cup player, to gauge his interest in returning to MLS after being let go by English club Everton." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A31547-2002Dec23.html
These players probably knew for at least a couple of weeks this deal was coming down since us punters have known for a while. We are out of season as well, unlike the NHL. If you really want to get cold about it, do what Dollar Bill Wirtz did in the late 70s. Billy Reay was the winningest coach in Chicago Blackhawks' history, but 14 years of service ended when Dollar Bill Wirtz had a lackey slide a pink slip under the coach's door on Christmas Eve. Any wonder why Ol' Whiskey Nose may be the most hated owner in the sporting world?
Here's another rumor: http://www.planetfootball.com/article.asp?id=125073&cpid=8&title=Wizards+interested+in+Moore According to KC GM Curt Johnson, the Wizards are interested in Moore (who has ties to the midwest, apparently), and have room under the salary cap.

The Los Angeles Galaxy won its first title in the seven seasons of Major League Soccer, beating the Columbus Crew 1-0 in overtime on a goal by Carlos Ruiz, who led the league with 24 goals during the regular season. Four days later, the Crew beat the Galaxy 1-0 in the U.S. Open Cup final on a goal by Freddy Garcia. I think I remember the Galaxy playing the Revs in the MLS Final.
Moore did live here in Tulsa for a time. Might be a good strike option for that new franchise, if we ever get one. This snow is beautiful, btw. I feel sorry for the folks stuck with rain on Christmas.
Just imagine how I feel. I'm here in North Alabama and we got all excited that there was a 20% chance of snow, then it just rained. Lol, it snows in Oklahoma?
