By all accounts awful first half at Cardiff, down 1-0 at the half. Ihiekwe pulls one back (off a corner) on the hour. Possession numbers up in the second half, and apparently they're playing much better. I've got an appointment to get my taxes done and will probably have to leave before it's over. Hopefully they can get a late winner, but I sure wouldn't bet on it. Fingers crossed. Why can't they ever seem to play well in both halves?
It's hitting the fan now. Word came out a few days ago that players wages for March had not been paid in full, and now it seems Chansiri has said that he can't guarantee a resolution, the result of which could be a three-window embargo (no transfers in). And that would be catastrophic. The wolves are baying louder than ever, and even his defenders have gone quiet. I've got to be up in 7 hours, so I'm not gonna go any deeper into it tonight. But it's looking bad.
The club's website has a brief statement assuring that all outstanding player salaries for March have been paid. Embargo averted. But it's clear (or at least appears so) that the club is being run very close to the chairman's limits. Even the moderates are saying its time to sell up. Not sure how you do that if there's no buyer, though.
Just off work and checked the score, and lo and behold, up 2-0 away as the second half kicks off. Nice. Now put together two good halves in a row, please and thank you.
Derby's loss to Luton means Wednesday are Mathematically safe. Good thing, too, as i wouldn't be shocked if they're done winning for the season.
Tony Mowbray is out at West Brom. Tie him up, Dejphon! I know he won't sack Danny, as he'll want compensation. And Soton won't move for him until season's end, as it'll cost less as a Championship club. So nothing will happen for a few weeks yet. But I'd love to see Mowbray in at Wednesday. Absolutely my first choice of reasonable options.
Season finale Saturday, away to Watford. A win assures a top half finish. A draw will do the same if Norwich doesn't win. Probably Liam Palmer's last game for Wednesday after 15 years. That's quite impressive in my opinion. Not many players stick at a single club that long anymore - particularly a club with as many ups and downs as Wednesday have had in that time. If we're honest, he's probably not up to it at the championship level anymore, so you can't really complain if he's not offered an extension; but hats off to a longtime loyal servant to SWFC. Windass and Paterson probably done, as well, so a tip of the hat to them, too. Bannan, I'm guessing, will be offered an extension, but if not, it could be his last game for Wednesday, as well. He'll likely be on reduced wages and play a lesser role given his age, but it sounds like he'll still be around. Takeover rumors are heating up, and Danny Rohl's status will be the big issues going into the summer. It's tough to be optimistic about either ... but time will tell.
United are just so much better than any of Bristol City, Coventry, and Sunderland. They match up well with each and those three all came into the playoffs in very poor form. I'm for Sunderland as well - obviously - but I just can't see it. I mean, it's just one game and anything can happen. But I bet it's over by halftime. The pigs are just better. Way better.
