Peacock-Farrell played for Northern Ireland in their loss to Switzerland on Saturday, I don't know if he made any howlers though. Northern Ireland aren't exactly worth watching unless you're Northern Irish.

By the sound of it they were down to 10 men early on and got absolutely battered so given that it was only 2-0 he might have had a good game.

    NFR: 25 years ago today:

Damon Hill secured his first (and only) F1 championship by winning the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka. My recollections of the day were going out go-karting with Ivan in the afternoon, pre-race, then both of us heading over to Donut Boy's house on Packard Ave to watch the race in the evening. I seem to recall dancing about like the Gaseous Wiener (see: Conan O'Brien circa mid-90s) when Hill took the lead going into turn one, and squealing 'wheee!' (not entirely unlike Ned Beatty's infamous moment in Deliverance, unfortunately - but far more enthusiastically) when Villeneuve went out, insuring that Damon won the title. I've seen Spurs win a couple of domestic cups in my day, but I can't recall ever being more elated by sport*. Kind of bizarre, in retrospect, seeing as how F1 is such a bore anymore.

Anyway, the salient question is this: what the hell were you doing in Indiana that day, Ivan? Did you come up that weekend just for the race? It seems odd, in retrospect.

*well, televised sport, anyway. I've been to some live footy/baseball/auto racing that's topped it for excitement.

What's the story behind Donut Boy's nickname?

Our fair city (Ft Wayne, IN) has the world's greatest hamburger joint - Powers Hamburgers. It's been there since the 1930s.

For many years, my pals Joe and Dave and myself would go down to Powers in the evening a couple nights a week because ... well ... because that's just what we did. But there was a stretch back in the late 80s when they opened up a second store on the north side of town, and we would occasionally go up to that one instead. And adjacent to that Powers was a donut shop. And when we went up there, Dave would, with metronomical consistency, upon finishing his burgers (they're small slider-types), get up, walk over to the donut shop, purchase an apple fritter, and return to our table for its consumption. On one particular occasion, after having eaten our fare, and just as Dave was returning from his fritter purchase, I went back up and said to the girl behind the counter (Heidi) , "I'll have another burger, and two more for Joe", to which she snarkily responded, "and nothing for Donut Boy?".

    :D:D:D

    It stuck.

I knew there would be a good story behind it, it's funny how how a quip like that sticks.

Happy with the point... but yeah, right in the bread basket as usual.

Wednesday away to Cambridge United in the League today. Looking at the lineup, I'm guessing it's a 3-5-2? 3-4-3? 3-4-1-2, maybe? Gregory and Paterson are both up front, in any case.

    0-0 eight minutes in.

Down a goal 20 minutes in, and by the sound of things it should be worse. Still 1-0 at 35', but it's a beautiful day here, and I really should find something better to do with my time.

All wailing and gnashing of teeth on both OO and OT, as you'd expect. Apparently Wing's just missed a sitter. Anyway, I'm heading outdoors. Hope to return to find out Wednesday have won 3-1 ... but won't hold my breath. Good luck, Wednesday.
