That's ok. I mean, Wycombe getting a point cost Wednesday 6th place, but that's no biggie. Beat Crewe tomorrow and you're up to 4th, with a game still in hand over Wycombe and Plymouth. Fail to beat Crewe, and the odds are still not bad ... but frankly, if you can't beat a 24th-place-and-already-relegated Crewe at home in these circumstances, I'm not sure you deserve to go up. When it's all said and done, this will likely have been a very good long weekend for Wednesday.
Just got off work. 1-0 in the 58th. They need to put this to bed. No excuses if they don't take all three points.
You're going to get automatic promotion at this rate, only team aside from Wigan that hasn't gone to ***** in sight of the finish line.
The Mad Bomber during his finest season, 1969#Raiders QB Daryle Lamonica fires 4 touchdowns in Boston, then riddles the Bills in Oakland with an AFL/NFL record 6 touchdown passes in the first half.RIP pic.twitter.com/kEM3Op4b9N— Kevin Gallagher (@KevG163) April 22, 2022
That 'tight end Billy Cannon' was the same Billy Cannon who won the Heisman as a running back at LSU, and who passed on the NFL to join the Houston Oilers of the AFL. I had no idea he ever played tight end, let alone with the Raiders. Lamonica, though. He had neighborhood stray dogs named after him ... though Mike Phipps can say the same.
it just show you that being a big club it does guarantee you top flight status. really though with the resources Sheffield Wednesday have you would think they should being the top flight of English football on merit but currently that is not the case.
'Merit', though. Wednesday's entire organization was managed so poorly for so long, it can't be said that they merit much else. Most folks probably don't realize just how close Wednesday came to going into administration back before Milan Mandaric came to the rescue. Chansiri came in and had the chance to put it all back on solid footing - and, to be fair, he almost got them back to 'the promised land' - but it has to be said that he's made a bit of a hash of it. There's no doubt that a club the size of Sheffield Wednesday has real advantages - and should be among the promotion favorites - in the third tier. But things like points deductions and transfer embargos go a long way in negating those privileges. Mr. Chansiri's sunk loads of his own cash into the club, so it's tough to criticize him in the 'foreign investors taking money out of an English football club' mold. And SWFC might well be in even worse shape without him. But crikey, this is one club that's done very little to exploit what appears to be the natural advantage of a large, dedicated support over the last 25 or so years - current ownership included. Tune in Saturday to catch a glimpse of what could be. The upcoming Pompey match has already sold out. A full Hillsborough on song will give a degree of validation to the quoted comment above, for sure.
Have any of you read the inflatable banana thread on Owlstalk? I probably don't get out enough but it's had me crying with laughter.
So is Bannan genuinely injured or is he just a pro at milking attention? noticed he was in the EFL League One team of the season terrible timing if he's out for the playoffs.
