Looks bit chaotic and I love it.

But I saw a pic recently showing single-tiered stand behind goals. In this article that is not the case.

not official, but marca posted list of 11 spanish stadiums. valencia, vigo, gijon and murcia not listed anymore.

three stadiums in portugal are known (2x lisbon and porto), leaving morocco open, guess also three or rather four will make the list

    hier the marca pic:

Amazing cities. All of them. Not a single Dallas in there.

I also get the feeling the FIFA Congress “vote” for each bid will be towards the end of the year in December, when people get busy with festivities and pay less attention to the FIFA “process”.

Morocco is building a 115,000-seater "Grand Stade Hassan II" for the 2030 World Cup. If so, it will be the largest football stadium in the world. Looks impressive. Let's not think about what they are going to do with it after the World Cup...

Or how one would even get there. Doesn't exactly look like it's in the middle of the city, or even on the edge of it.

I think Casablanca will finally use this to build the metro they've been trying to build. That or they expand the commuter rail to the stadium.

Enhancing infrastructure for big sports events is nice and one of the reasons to hold them in the first place. But will they be able to sustain such a stadium after the World Cup? I doubt it. There are only a handful teams in the world able to gather such crowds for every home game, and none of those teams play in Morocco. And top show or global events do not happen every week or month too.

The FIFA Congress was empowered to appoint hosts for both, Men's and Women's Word Cups, after all the criticism around the Russia 2018 and (especially) the Qatar 2022 decision. The Club World Cup needs to be added here as well if it is going to be a major event. Host decisions used to be taken by the FIFA Executive Committee which has now been replaced by the FIFA Council. The idea, from a governance perspective, was to remove bribery temptations for the ExCo members and give the vote to a body of 211 football associations.

Of course the spirit of this has been severely undermined by Infantino and his FIFA council "yes" men and women. Instead of direct decision-making like in years past (as the ExCo), they now remove or limit the choice for the FIFA Congress by acting as the gatekeepers for the bids. And engineering the process around it. For example, the bidding process for 2034 started on October 4th 2023 and ended on October 31st 2023. Less than a month. Surprise, surprise - only Saudi Arabia was ready with a bid.

So now the FIFA Congress has been reduced to a rubber-stamping body, be it for a convoluted bid like 2030 - or the controversial 2034 Saudi Arabia bid. Without a meaningful choice.

2026 WC host was voted on June 13 2018. 2027 WWC was voted on May 17 2024.

FIFA plans to hold a general vote for both men's editions 2030+2034 on the same day. The vote session will be held virtually to avoid capture and extradition of FIFA executives.
