I still profoundly disagree with the decision to bring him back cold-turkey and play him over Baumann.
Deniz Undav was the standout story. Brought on in the 64th minute for Jamal Musiala with Germany already 4-1 up, the 29-year-old VfB Stuttgart striker had a hand in all three remaining goals — a backheel assist for Nathaniel Brown, a goal of his own, and a through ball to set up Kai Havertz. That extended a remarkable run: across his ten caps since debuting in March 2024, Undav has been directly involved (as scorer or assister) in every single German goal scored while he's been on the pitch. The piece walks through this game by game — quiet cameos against France, Ukraine and Hungary where no goals fell during his time on, then decisive contributions against the Netherlands, Bosnia, Ghana, Finland and now Curaçao. His efficiency is the other headline. Undav now has 7 goals and 4 assists for Germany — 11 goal involvements in just 397 minutes, roughly one every 36 minutes. In his four caps this year alone, that rate jumps to a scoring contribution every 23 minutes.
The Gegenpressing podcast has an interesting take on why Sane is playing and an opinion of his skills. Worth a watch, also it's not what has been opined in this forum.
This is ironically why the Gegenpressing guys wanted Kimmich out after the poor results right after the euros
Julian will most probably start with Sane again , but he will need to bring on an option as from the 65th minute - can’t wait to long into the tournament to figure out what to do on the right wing. This is crucial for him to figure out . And Sane off the bench could also be crucial , if he does not show up what then . Hope Sane finds that 6/7 match world class form that he does do from time to time . If it’s the right time it’s now :
Yeah, Julian is going to eventually be forced into a change though. Because if it doesn't work, it's his rear on the line.
Watched a new podcast, praemium talk. It was in German, I had to use auto translate, my German just wasn't good enough to keep up. Olaf Thomas and Diddi Hamman were the commentators. Many topics covered but the key point was about Sané, has good speed, lots of talent, recovers defensively. Down side is he makes too many mistakes and has bad judgment (guess that's called low football IQ). Also, he would have been second choice to Karl. They also had concerns about Kimmich at right back when facing stronger / faster teams like Mbappe of France. Thy felt it would be better to use him as DM, and move someone else as RB. ( interesting comment was made: "anyone can play rightback".
I guess Anton would be the likely choice to play RB if Kimmich moved to DM, although I wouldn't particularly rate his chances v someone like Mbappe either. The other option would be to move Brown over to RB and start Raum.
I would not break the Nmecha/ Pavlovic partnership - Keep Kimmich at Right back and against teams like France he just needs to stay back and not move up as much - would be crazy to change anything now, and there is no reason for it either. Kimmich is actually quite a good right back.
As said why change anything now - Kimmich just needs to stay put in his zone against teams like France
Let's not miscoach the team like Löw in 2012 with Kroos and Pirlo. Just stay to our plan now, adapt a bit with positioning. Lahm was never the fastest player out there as well but he could contain literally everybody. Let somebody else do the playmaking from deep, e.g. Schlotterbeck or deep falling Pavlovic. Don't let Nmecha go in the final third as often and we will be fine. Just score more often than the opponent.
yeahh exactly - always first make sure you are tight at the back - Like when Voller took over for one game and we beat France. And we have enough attacking quality to score a goal or two. We don't always have play pretty football, affective is also fine.
I agree no need to change our midfield pairing since they are doing great and will even get better if they play more together ( they rarely did before since one of the two was most of the time injured). But if you noticed Nagelsmann made a tactical change against Curacao subbing out Tah with Anton and Rüdiger in. So he played with 3 at the back : Anton , Rüdiger, and Schlotterbeck. This could be our plan against teams with fast and skillfull wingers to avoid leaving kimmich alone defending.
Nah.. a three man back line would let the wings uncontested. You then need to move back two guy from midfield/wings and ultimately form a 5 men back line. That would cripple our game forward and had never worked out for Germany. Stay to the plan, help out Kimmich a bit more, stay disciplined in the center and apart from that, go scoring goals. You can't deny chances for the likes of France or England. They are all suspicious in the back as well, even Spain. Have trust in going forward. Like Bayern, like Barca, like PSG.
