How is Italy in Pot 1 having not qualified for the last 2 World Cups?

  7. Not qualifying for a WC doesnot mean shit regarding the quality of a team.
LvG managed to fail it with one of the best selections available to any country at that moment, probably even the best one.
We failed to qualify for the WC 2018, after being just 1 goal away from the 2014 WC final.
Rankings are a gauge of the current results a team realized, not one of 4 years or more ago.

Not qualifying for a World Cup doesn’t always mean your complete crap, but in Italy’s case recent times don’t really do them any favors as they are nowhere near their former selves.
I don’t see one top class player in their squad and having not qualified for the past 2 World Cups should certainly not see them in Pot 1 with the other best sides in Europe, but FIFA’s nonsensical system is a joke.
Certainly the previous World Cup should have some bearing on seeding.
Oranje in 2018 was average at best, and had some tough luck, but also some bad decisions by the Managers.
Certainly the Van Gaal failure of 2002 was completely outrageous based on the massive quality at his disposal.
That failure is universally dubbed the worst ever in the history of World Cup Qualification is still hard to believe.
Bottom line is the seeding process for the World Cup makes no sense to most people especially myself.

These are the 2 possible groups:

    https://www.ad.nl/voetbal/live-loting-oranje-wk-kwalificatie-2026~a73a01cf/

    Groep E

Winnaar Spanje - Nederland Nations League
    • Turkije
    • Georgië
    • Bulgarije

    Or

    Groep G

Verliezer Spanje - Nederland Nations League
    • Polen
    • Finland
    • Litouwen
    • Malta

I'm guessing it will probably be Group G, which means we play 1 more game because of Malta. Either groups are fine with me though

I think Turkiye is more dangerous than Poland, especially in the Away match… but yeah, either group should be manageable for Oranje.

Should handle any of these teams.
I’m looking forward to knocking out Spain in March.
