If I see Dalot start at RB over Cancelo or, even worse, Joao Neves shoved to RB… time to lynch Martinez. For the people suggesting a diamond midfield with Ruben behind Bruno/Vitinha/Joao, when have Portugal ever used that formation? It’s always 4-3-3. I expect to see the normal 4-3-3 where LW is up in the air between Felix/Leao/Neto. Bernardo will start at RW and be completely useless for us like he usually is, until he’s subbed off for Conceicao/Trincao.
I would have to assume the RB is Cancelo or Nunes. If Joao Neves is RB I will drive to Palm Beach and personally smack Martinez.
Whoever else Martinez plays where is a minor issue compared to the biggest problem with the starting XI that people ignore and won't be changed.
Im saying they should use a diamond 442. Portugal's weakness is the wingers. So why not play a formation that caters to their strengths of their current lineup? Yes they tend to play a 433 (though lately more 4231) but they have been and are very predictable in that formation. There is only so many times I can watch a bunch of botched crosses to lonely Ronaldo in the box. I want to see more variety in their play and see them attack from all over the field and a 442 diamond would do that.
