This is an interesting analysis from The Athletic on how Lorenzo changed tactics to give James more time to operate and get Munoz more involved in the offense by playing James as a RWB in possession (a la Alexander Arnold effectively). https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7389383/2026/06/24/colombia-world-cup-munoz-dr-congo/
Having the players move around was the best thing. Very PSG as this makes us less predictable and keeps a flow that makes it so that our players can't be easily covered/tracked. That can give us the versatility that we need to challenge for the cup.
So I flew down from NYC to Ft. Lauderdale this morning and the flight was full and overbooked. I saw so many yellow jerseys and the guy sitting next to my wife and I was from bogota going back and forth from MIA to NYC and back for games with a group of 10. When I asked him about the lineup, he said “bench Lucumi - Mojica - Lerma and Vargas bc he’s been nerve wracking” lol can’t wait for tomorrow!!!
Cannot really blame that random fan you talked to Although Vargas did save our arses late in that DR Congo match.
a lot of fans dont really watch or know about futbol.. you can see there is a lot of tias just there for a good time and to watch piernas
Norway thinking of the next game.. for us it might be difficult to do that because a second place could radically change things for us
Yeah I almost made a comment about the “unholy trinity” but I think that’s only a joke between us folks here lol
Are you ********ing kidding me? We are viewed that low? Days ago it wasn't this much difference; even the draw is the same.
When this game is played we will know if it suits us better to finish first or second. If it would turn out a disaster like Norway's game vs France and we're down 0-3 or something I just hope Lorenzo rotates and saves lucho, Muñoz and other key players as opposed to killing yourself to find an Equalizer. We do not have the depth of these other teams and must protect the few stars we have. Of course Portugal are also eyeing their possible opponents but they care less I think who they will face.
We are in a position that coming in second might really hurt our chances... this game will truly tell where we are at for both players and manager team. Overall the team has been improving every game, we gotta keep it up or maintain that level. I worry about our fitness also, Lucho having ongoing games all season etc.. its a tough call.
If it ends as it is now we def need to go for the win, Spain in the round of 16 would be a terrible draw. Portugal is a good side and its gonna be a good test for us to try and gain some confidence, I think its fair they are the favorite, its going to be a very different game compared to the first 2 but no matter what we need to utilize our subs and we don't want to exhaust our guys, we need to win or lose utizling subs and get guys a break.
We should split it, go out strong but plan to not play everyone 90, no matter what pull guys earlier than normal and trust our depth and get others confident.
If Colombia ends this match in a draw with Portugal they still end up on top of the group which would be a fantastic finish for them. I imagine coming into this Group Stage Portugal was the group favorite. I would also think that all the pressure has to be on Portugal to get the win here. Colombia however still needs to come out in this contest and put the pressure on Portugal right from the beginning and throughout. There should not be any settling for a draw for Colombia in this match because when any team seems to go into a game with that mindset they end up coming out of the game with a lose. In the end this game is going to be a really good one.
Just got here too. My Uber driver walking me through the different possibilities if we win or lose. Love it. Your random fan knows what he is talking about tho, Nacho!
All the pressure is on Portugal for sure. They are “one of the tournament favorites”. They tied DRC. They have an egotistical old star who just said “I am back” after scoring on Uzbekistan. We are playing with house money. We just gutted out a good victory. We are playing essentially a home match in what will feel like Barranquilla north. It is time to put up or shut up for both teams tomorrow. This game (and group) is there for the taking. May the better team win.
Haha potentially play Iran in the final 16 if we win or Spain if we lose go end Portugal tonight guys!!
Lorenzo does not really rest starters. But with three players on yellow cards he may be tempted to switch things up a little bit.
Rise and shine!! It’s day 3 of Christmas for us! woke up early this morning and ran 9 miles for 9 points. Letsss goooooo!!!!
