What an outrageous clearance save by Bosnia on the goal line plus crossbar

    Deserved to win.
With a bit of luck we could have had 2-3 more goals - one off the line, one deflected onto the bar, plus one poor shot and one wtf-was-that shot while open in the box with time to place it.
But good spirit all through the team. Well coached in that regard.

Not impressed by Bosnia mind you.

The Canadian tv comms were absolutely atrocious! I think in the whole game there was a total of 10 seconds of silence .. the rest was 80% nonstop drivel.

USA absolutely clobbering Paraguay. 3-0 at the half.

USA look very competent. Paraguay look like they won a raffle.

USA gives up a Liverpool goal - can’t win the second ball.
Still a walk in the park.

Great start by USA! Pulisic torched Paraguay on the left, Balogun finished his chances. It's hard not to get carried away.
Canadians didn't deserve any better after refusing to become Americans.

Only seen bits of a couple of games (incl Canada and USA). Standard seemed low.

Paraguay were terrible - but USA was quite good to be fair.

Canada will kick themselves for not winning. They had many chances. Didn’t play Alphonso Davies - they don’t have an electric player without him.

Made me laugh for some reason ....

England have been the victims of a security breakdown after the team’s match boots were stolen before their first World Cup training session in Kansas City.

The theft is understood to have taken place while equipment was being transported from the squad’s pre-tournament base in Florida to their training camp at Swope Soccer Village in Missouri. Boots belonging to England’s star players were understood to be among the stolen items, along with official tournament balls and training equipment.

The Kansas City police department is investigating the incident and has confirmed that two suspects have been apprehended. A police spokesperson told the Guardian: “Two subjects of interest were taken into custody pending further investigation.”

I only watched the goals in the US game - each very well taken.

Real boost for the US, scoring more in 1 game than in the whole of the last WC.

Although Paraguay is really a minnow team - same population as Massachusetts.
Who do they US play next?

I'll put this here instead of the VAR thread ....

The United States opened their World Cup campaign with a fine win - but not before a sequence of events that left everyone inside SoFi Stadium scratching their heads as the video assistant referee (VAR) made history.

The co-hosts were comfortably leading Paraguay 3-0 when confusion reigned in the Group D game.

Veteran defender Tim Ream, 38, conceded a free-kick and was shown a yellow card for his 'challenge' on Miguel Almiron.

After the free-kick was taken, Dutch referee Danny Makkelie was sent to the screen by the VAR and overturned his decision - something officials have not previously been allowed to do.

After rescinding Ream's caution, Makkelie instead booked former Newcastle United forward Almiron, who had clearly dived. It is the first VAR intervention for mistaken identity at the World Cup, even if it perhaps was not used in the way most expected it to be.

Fifa has introduced of a number of rule changes for the tournament, with Pierluigi Collina, the head of referees, requesting one specifically for mistaken identity.

The rule states that if a player is booked or sent off - but the foul was actually committed by the opposition team - the decision can be changed.

Another new law is second yellow cards leading to a red card can be reviewed, but not first yellow cards. The only reason referee Makkelie was able to rescind the decision was by using the mistaken identity law.

The officials allowed the game to restart before stopping, which also confused fans as normally once the game resumes it cannot be pulled back.

I loved seeing this. There was no contact and Almiron 2 steps later threw himself on the floor.

It's about time this was addressed - it's a blight on the game. It seems to be just a WC-only change though for some ridiculous reason. Should be adopted everywhere.

I think VAR should absolutely include simulation with an automatic yellow
