This is a complete and utter FALLACY. England is not the better team. They were dominated by Norway and dominated by Mexico. They couldn't hold a lead today. WHY? They lack skill. They have never been able to find a player in the midfield who can pull the strings and dictate tempo. Bunch of guys who run around as you said but cannot link up play. Same problem for years, same result when push comes to shove when it counts.

yes its very simple and their defenders GK are not good enough to play counter attack. they fluctuate from the 12th best team in poor eras to the 4th 5th best team in their best era but they can never break into that top 2/3rd teams in the world. It's like Tennis the 4th and 5th best teams don't win anything. They are the Andy Murray of the sport. Italy France Brazil were the top 3 teams from 1994-2006. Spain Argentina France have been the top 3 teams 2018-2026. thats how it works. Italy were a top 3 team from 2019-2021 and 1980-82. We sometimes have these brief periods where we are contenders out of the blue.
i'm still struggling to find out what England actually do well. They have the 2nd best striker in the world and Jude who is an enigma... doesn't really work well tactically but has moments of individual brilliance. But they can't obviously lock down a game... they don't really create a lot offensively... they are good at scraping past teams that outplay them?
Makes me appreciate this even more on a day like today. God, we need to figure shit out and get back in the trenches with these teams.

I'll play devils advocate for this one. So maybe they are wrong so explain this. In the 1H when it was still 0-0, how could England have been the superior team if they are crap? Except between, say Minutes 25-40 when Argentina had their best segment. England WERE the better team. England only relinquished their superiority after the negative moves were made. To be clear, absolutely nobody is doubting they allowed too many crosses, sat waaaaaaaaaaaay too deep, but isn't this because of the reasons why they are telling you?

Physically they are superior. They made life really difficult for Argentina in the first 35 minutes. But once that press faded their flaws came out. Very average midfield with no creator/controller. And a defence that is not organized enough to play counter attack like a prime Italy would. They are very good. They are probably the 5th best team in the world right now. They are just not good enough to reach a world cup final. Two things can be true at the same time. Now because their players cost a combined 2billion and their midfield trio cost maybe 400m it is funny how limited they actually are.
