One thing Ive learned from when I used to listen to ESPN FC a few years ago is don't judge a still picture. Of course who knows now, I would have to watch the incident in real time.

In 1994 Argentina were a wagon. I legit got "oh ********, they ain't ********ing around" when Maradona went to the camera after the goal in the Greece match. Then the test result just sapped that team.

The Copa losses were no big thing. That mid 2010 Chile team was elite.

Well, they are a big thing when you lose two in a row to Chile, who were good, yes :)

Here is a video of the incidents. Damn you for reminding me about the past losses :p

Like I said earlier, I'm not suggesting it was rigged. The 117th minute killer goal was more painful than the calls that could have gone our way. I think in today's VAR era, the one on Higuain does get called for a penalty. Times change.

I thought the first one is more a PK than the second one even if the one on Pipita seems more violent. Of only because Neuer clearly gets the ball first.

Argentina has the highest population of jews out of any other Latin American nation. So that might also have something to do with it . 85 percent of their totals there live in Buenos Aires.

I found it very distasteful of Javier Milei who recently 'Like' the social media post of the altered Argentine Flag that depicted the Star of David instead of the sun.

    What a shitshow.

Yipppeeee. 3 more spots for UEFA, 2 Hosts, so its really 2 more spots for UEFA, and 10 more for Africa Maybe Somalia can crack the top 200 in FIFA's Rankings.

We aren't closing this thread. I will guarantee you UEFA gets no more than 3 spots. Especially now that UEFA are warring with FIFA.

That's exactly why the call wasn't made in our favor, but there is that thing about excessive aggression that could have made the difference and it probably would in today's world. I said in our thread in the Argentinian forum that I'm not one to go over every tiny detail of would have and could have. I'll leave it at this, that could have been a win for us, but wasn't. This one yesterday could have too. Anything can happen. A 2014 win would have been more deserving, if we're going to compare the two.

This guy may not be popular. I like his take on suicidal empathy. He's right here, at least in my mind.

I made my comment on the favoritism accusation a few days ago. I have a problem with the blatant lies. Take this one for example. I see its now been Community Noted, earlier it wasn't. Here they accuse FIFA of firing off light blue coloured fireworks. But one has to sit back and spend literally 1 more minute to cross reference this and see it isn't so. Bottom YouTube video is reality.

Haha, I love it. It's like the case of robbery in 2022. France didn't show up really until the 60th minute and if the fix was in for us, I find it hard to believe that they would be awarded two penalties. Then there's the toe save of Dibu on Kolo-Muani at the 120th minute. Hard to engineer that, right? Of all the penalties awarded to us, the one against Poland was questionable, and that was saved. I'm biased, who isn't? I went through each and every other one as closely as I could and I found nothing wrong with them, even the one to Alvarez against Croatia. The keeper made himself bigger and impeded on his progress to goal. Like Grosso in 06, he was trying to get around the keeper (22)/defender (06). You just can't do that. I know some Croatians still hate us for that. They forgot how Messi put Gvardiol in his pocket three times in that game and how Brazil pumped 11 shots on them in the previous one, with them getting a deflection goal on one shot on net. I like Croatia and they are a tough team to play against but in both games, they were heavily out played. That's why this game is so good, the controversy will always be there no matter what.

And for some stupid reason that I still don't understand, somebody made some AI pictures of white female Argentina fans (nordic subrace). For some reason I do not know why on earth people were obsessed with the racial makeup of Argentina these last 6 weeks. TBF, Canada as well. And I will write it as is: mainly by POC. I even saw it on other board here on BS. I personally could give two-shits if you're an Argentine of Scottish extraction like Brown from the '86 team or MacAllister, a mixed bastard indigenous/Croat/Italian like Maradona, or a majority Polak like Dybala, German extraction like Gabriel Hienz. I've known a few Argentines and like many Western Hemisphere nations I've always considered it a multi racial country. All perfectly and equally Argentine. The non-football shit got on my nerves.

If FIFA wanted Argentina over Spain they never would have given Enzo a red card that is such an easy way to nudge it. Just complete nonsense. Messi was doing things so unbelievable that people could not believe it.

Don't forget Burruchaga, hero of 86!! Italian and Spanish roots, like a good majority of the country. I've always felt there was some Indigenous mixture in there somewhere. Sources say no. My eye test says, somewhere.

1994 was 24 teams with 13 spots 2026 48 16 teams. With another 16 teams added the proportional number should be 21 teams but we will see. If it is only 19 that will be a disgrace. UEFA needs to fight for itself here.

I prefer a 32 team world cup but also think 64 is better than 48. 64 is closer to a big stage qualifier before the all elimination knock out of the 32 team bracket.

Yes, 24 team WC and 16 team Euro. Even the Copa America with only South American teams. I don't mind the invite, once in a while, but I'm a purist. Sue me.

me too, also I wish South America also go back to rotating the Copa. If so, it would be Ecuador's turn. It's what makes each tournament a unique story.

Although as a youngster it was always kinda fun to see Honduras or Costa Rica pop up in the Copa.

The 24 team tournaments are my favorite world cups by far, every single one. There is so much replay value. High-quality teams and I think it's the perfect number that really forces the teams to prove they are the best.

I also miss those world cups because the attacking midfielder was featured so much and I miss those kind of players

Yeah that was the perfect format for all three competitions.

I do think though that Copa America will help improve Canada/USA/Mexico and even some of the smaller nations. Having to wait 4 years for a meaningful tournament is too long and allows those federations to drift with no goal in sight. There is a world where the Copa America is as competitive as the Euros in say 15/20 years and even becomes commercially as viable.
