Not sure Cerillo is really worth his salary. For sure Yamane and Yoshida appear overpaid for what they're bringing lately. jury still out on Haak and Thommy
I put this in the Galaxy 2026 thread but maybe it belong here. We are the 4th highest spending team in MLS. We should have more to show for it. Hard for me to fault AEG on the money spend. MLS teams ranked by expenditure Inter Miami $54.6M LAFC $32.7M Atlanta United $27.9M LA Galaxy $26.4M Vancouver Whitecaps $24.6M San Diego FC $24.4M https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7273137/2026/05/12/mls-2026-player-salaries-mlspa-list-messi-miami/
In case you're wondering, every player in our roster got a raise from last year (which is normal in MLS), except for : - Marco Reus (from $1,136,667 to $902,364). He recently got a new contract and maybe his salary will keep decreasing. - Jakob Glesnes (slightly, from $1,310,000 to $1,268,503). - Erik Thommy (from $1,606,250 to $706,667). Good business for a player who was probably not much coveted. It's also worth noting that Christian Ramirez has almost the same contract as he had last year ($577,500). But Diego Fagundez is only making $316,250 ($1,310,000 last year !). Talk about a player who was probably not much wanted by MLS clubs.
The good news is that there are no glaring salary mistakes there, unlike in years past. Yamane and Yoshida are clearly the outliers in that their salaries don't match their contributions, but only by a little bit. Also should note that a BIG chunk of our salary is going to a player who hasn't played for 2 seasons. If you take Puig off the books, how far down do we fall on the expenditure list?
Just looked it up. If you take out Puig's salary, then we drop from 4th to 15th in the league. Which means we are currently outperforming our budget slightly (we are 13th in the league right now in the standings).
