either or Portilla hasn’t been given a fair shot. Comes in when the game is over and team doesn’t want to play anymore
If Mosquera is cleared to play by doctors then I would start him. He has played minutes in preseason and pl games. He should be good to go. Munoz I am very hesitant to play. Not only cause of injury risk but I could see him getting a red card and therefore missing our opener for the World Cup. ( Remember any suspended player this game will miss the World Cup opener for Colombia, which is even more incentive to just play benchers. )
Listened to this yesterday on our 90's team and thought it was pretty good (though a lot of generalizations given British audience). https://open.spotify.com/episode/7MH0Jbg9mHyynjnyHhKkQ3?si=-cHCeJOHS_64olHwZTo9nA I thought Felipe Cardenas (ATL based Colombian reporter for the Athletic)'s comments on his interview with Oscar Cordoba on the 94 tournament were both insightful and such an indictment of Maturana: - That the team NEVER did film study on any of it's first round opponents. - That the FcF had sold packages where the team had to meet fans in the hotels surrounding games (all while they were receiving death threats back home) - That they started the training camp for the tournament formally way later than the rest of the field because the FcF had signed up so many friendlies - so the time was overexerted and had less time to prepare. The other thing I didn't consider was that Higuita was still of playing age at the time but was in prison after having been one of the faces of the team in the prior world cup.
I have a feeling you let Munoz play without the pressure of qualifying and we'll see the dude we see in London and that we saw against Spain... Would be good for him... But also, he is a leader now and has to learn how to handle the responsibility.
People understandably blame the environment of colombia at the time for that failure, but Maturana doesn't get enough blame. He's important in our history but at the end of the day he was a rather average manager.
Not watching film and preparing is on him, no tactical updates is on him. The whole situation was a disaster, I feel like there are some similarities under Lorenzo he introduced a very niche unique style that catches alot of opponents off guard, Colombia plays really well and we get cocky and there is no evolution or anticipation on how to handle when teams adjust and you have an exploitable system when people have time to digest it. Maturana was very good at instilling a style of play and innovating, he was creative and bold but that's not enough at the top levels of the game and he wasn't strong enough as a leader to influence the federation and take control of the situation. We produce great talents but often we have some flaws and the federation is the biggest flaw and those flaws trickle down to every level of our soccer and development, a strong experienced manager who knows what needs to be done could help us a lot if they can get enough power to force the federation to change.
I think it should be more changes but I guess Lorenzo wants to spoil Venezuela's party, I wonder who sits at CB in that scenario. Both Davinson and Lucumi have yellows.
we been terrible for a whole year….. go destroy their dreams and their hopes before trump takes them over regardless if Brazil beats Bolivia they qualify If Bolivia ties then Venezuela can lose by like 11 and still qualify
great find. I listened today and it was very informative. Some stuff we already knew, other stuff was new to me. The lack of scouting was upsetting to me. Makes me wonder how much that has changed over the years
He wouldn’t have made that mistake that Oscar made against Romania I’m sure of that. Don’t forget by 95 Higuita was back on the team at the Copa America
I mean he made a worst mistake in wc 1990 so we don’t know for sure and Oscar was a better keeper imo
Higuita was the GK for 90WC and 91CA cordoba - 93CA (6 games); 94WCQ (6 games) + friendlies so he was very well established by 94 Higuita was GK for the 95CA
Agreed. That was before Cordoba went to Boca. I still remember his horror error in the Libertadores final return leg vs. River that cost America the chance in 96...
Higuita’s mistake in 1990 was way worse than Cordoba’s and it was more bone headed and stupid in a more important game really can’t sit here and talk about cordoba after that magisterial screw up
