True, but as we have seen Uribe is a captain and a leader in the locker room. And I am not sure Uribe's worst game was as bad as Barrios' appearances.

    come on….

I was one of the few here who liked and defended Uribe until it was obvious his time was up.

we have seen Uribe miss multiple clear goal opportunities in the same game (Uruguay copa América game) and there was the one game where he just gave the ball away on nearly every touch.

I really don’t recall Barrios being that terrible to the point where he would be out of the picture. I get he’s pure defense and we now have guys who can do both.

nevertheless - we are where we are and Uribe is clearly a leader given that he gets the armband on many occasions. If he starts this week, I hope he proves me wrong

Barrios is one of my all time favorite players. He's an excellent destroyer

Maybe I am being harsh but the last game against Uruguay in Barranqilla was pretty bad for Barrios. So I am personally not surprised to see him left off after that.

I have been thinking about your post the last few days.

The only thing that makes me optimistic is that we can play them close and then bring in someone like Duran at the end to win it for us. He would be hard to them to stop. He can bring an energy that they cannot match assuming things go our way. (Hard to say because things usually do not go our way down there.)

Puerta has been called up before when he was playing in Colombia to train with the team. So playing in the 2nd tier of England and looking pretty good makes me say I have no problem with him training with the team again. Now if he gets minutes then I might be a bit stunned because I expect guys like Rios, Uribe, Castaño, Portilla to actually get those midfield minutes. Maybe even Seb Gomez is ahead of him. Who knows?

Monsalve is 20 and as much as I really wanted to see him get a chance this fall we will have to wait until next year unless there is some sort of Non-FIFA friendly and he is permitted to join the team.

Bring Duran to close the game? Lorenzo has to be a nut not to start him from the get go.

Duran's best role for both Club and Country has been the super sub role so far.

Maybe he will start. I am not discounting that at all. He did start against Argentina.

I am just assuming Santos Borre will be starting in a match like this.

As for being nuts to not start him, as I have mentioned in other posts this is going to be a street fight. It always is against these guys but especially in Montevideo.
Duran has had a history of letting guys get under his skin. So I do not think it is that crazy to just let the game play out and bring him in late and not from the get go.
But we shall see, Lorenzo may trust him more than I do.

Now it is time for one of my favorite things in the world... ....probable lineups.
First one I have seen does have Duran in it from RCN:

    ------------------Vargas---------------
    Munoz--Davinson---Lucumi-----Mojica
    ------------Uribe----Rios--------------
    ------------------J Arias-----------------
    ------------------James-----------------
    --Duran---------------------------Diaz

Cordoba is suspended. I forgot, so maybe he'll start.

Opt in for KC instead of Uribe and that is pretty much the best line-up we can have vs Uruguay.

    Castaño is an interesting player.
At this time last year he was taking on a big role for us in big games. I thought he was going to be relied upon for a bigger role in 2024.
So far that has not been the case. He has not played as much as I thought he would. And at his Russian Club he seems to be usually on the bench. Not sure if it is nagging injuries or what since I do not follow the Russian League closely.

I am not sure he should start in this match but we shall see. I am not ruling it out.

I would normally not start KC over Lerma. But Uribe has become a liability now. Even in Copa you could see his level of play was dropping and he doesn't have the James like IQ to compensate. We're also laking about a DMF that would be 35 by the time the WC opens. He has not played in all of October in a sub par league. There's just no upside for the NT here with Uribe in this squad.

Hard to argue against any of this.

But he did score last time we played Uruguay in Qualifying and Lorenzo seems to like his leadership/captain capabilities so we shall see.

We need to find more options to back up Lerma, Uribe ain't it and if Castano isn't playing for club that's a liability. Need more options or pressure Castano to move somewhere he'll get more minutes.

There's a chance we can see both Uribe and Castaño but not having Ríos out there would suck.

I would like to see Portilla get a chance but that may be too much to ask for in a match like this.

Over the last decade and a half of posting on here and other forums on BS people have asked me why I would never root for Uruguay or side with them when they are playing in World Cups against other Confederations.

Well my friends, that man and his attitude is the main reason why.

I do not believe what he is saying is what the minority of fans are thinking or saying.
It is in fact what many of them have been saying for years.
They want futbol to be more like a war and a physical brutal rugby type of blood sport than a game of technique and finesse. They want to win at all costs and if it means beating up your best player so be it.
And then they mention their history and their garra churrua and how Colombia is nothing historically and blah blah blah.

    It is nauseating.

I don’t mind some physicality in games but I would never publicly call for players to get elbowed.

I always hated the games when we gave opposing teams the red carpet and too much respect but I do enjoy a physical game when it calls for it. One of our games I am most proud of is when we beat Brazil in the 2015 Copa America bc played a clean but physical game where we gave Brazil no space.

What I don’t want to see is a game of yellow and red cards being given out like strip club passes in Vegas.

I’m saddened to see that in 2024 you have journalists using a public forum to make these kinds of calls to action. Just tells me this person doesn’t know how to read a situation given recent history..

Caracal say Uribe and Borré will be starting to no one's surprise but Portilla might start instead although unlikely

I have reallly bad vibes ahead of this game as I said before because of the injuries and form of the players.
But as I recall the opposite was the case ahead of the game vs Peru and Argentina. Basically all our players were doing fantastic in their clubs and scoring and contributing, and after that we had two pretty weak games. Not even the win vs Argentina was that great. The penalty was a gift to me so it was more like a draw.
So I hope I'll be surprised this time again and that this time we play a lot better than expected. At least Diaz is somewhat ok. (for another player he would be doing well but he has very high standards)
