As little as it takes to make a fan for life, it also takes just a tiny little bit to turn someone off for life. Dave Grohl gave a kid a guitar, there were a bunch of kids on stage at a Pearl Jam show in Seattle and some kids got on stage at an OAR show in Columbus and got to "strum" a guitar during a show. I've met some of the OAR guys and they're all really humble to the point where Jon Lampley even says he isn't "all that famous". Just a moment or two for a photo or a high-five can seal a deal. I'm sure I long tossed the photo out, but in 2005 when we were partying around the US-Mexico game, Marcelo Balboa came walking by and did an ICB (not the root beer). Someone took a photo of that moment, I printed out and he actually autographed it, but I can't remember if I asked or he just did it. He said it was the only one he ever did.
John Doyle signed my 94 World Cup card, took a few steps, then turned around and tossed me his warmup t-shirt (before they even had warmup jerseys). I’ve always sort of rooted for San Jose (except when they’re playing Columbus) because of that.
Listen to the podcast American Fiasco if you need a few more... Inversely it will make you like Frankie that much more too...
You want to simp for the Columbus-hating Chest-Burster, be my guest. He's always persona non-grata in my book.
He finds more and more ways to be a total douchenozzle even now by making his show and takes even more political and annoying AF.
Columbus has always cheated the city population by aggressively annexing land, to the point that there is Columbus outside of Franklin County IIRC.
So Paul Tenorio is releasing a book called The Messi Effect, and from everything I see about it, it seems like it is going to be a spiritual follow up to Grant Wahl's The Beckham Experiment, and I truly hope that Paul dedicated his book to Grant...
The City of Columbsu is the 38th largest city in the US by area. As lists go, thsi one;s pretty whacky. Th elargest four are in Alaska. No. 5 ia aplacein Kansas with a popuilatin under 1,000. Actualy major cities that are larger, area-qwise than Colubsu are: 6. Jacksonville 9. Houston 10, Oklahoma City 11. Phoenix 12. San Antonio 13. Nashville 14. Los Angeles 18. Indianapolis 19. Ft. Worth 20. Dallas 22. San Diego 23. Austin 24. Louisville 25. KC 26. Charlotte 28. NYC 29. Memphis 31. El Paso 34. Virginia Beach 35. Tucson 36. Chicago Population-wise, we're the 14th largest city on this list. Maybe Columbus grabs land, maybe not. But it's hard to claim that it's any worse that a lot of other cities (small, medium and large) in the US.
I'm kinda surprised. Orlando did make the playoffs last season with an OK record. They ARE 0-3 to start, but two of those losses are to MIAMI, and on the road at NYC, which WAS a 5-0 whitewashing, but all five goals happened after their starting keeper went DOGSO in the 16th minute. The obvious counter-argument is they lost in the Wild Card round, and 0-3 is 0-3. It's not like there aren't reasons to do it, either.
One win in their past 13 games dating to last season. The rot had set in and it was time. Poorly built roster, but I think Pareja likely had a good amount of say in how it’s built.
Also, his tactics have just become stale and boring. I think the team and coach both needed a change. He's still a good coach, but I don't think he's the great coach we thought he might be.
What am I missing? Home to NYRB and Miami. Away to NYC. https://www.orlandocitysc.com/schedule/#competition=all&date=2026-03-12
What are you missing? Seriously? A loss to Miami. A LOT OF TEAMS lose to Miami. I don't know if you've heard, but they're pretty good. And as I pointed out, all five goals in the loss to NYC came after a red card to their starting keeper, so something of an asterisk. Like I said, I wasn't aware that this in now only one win in 13 for them, so I can't say I'm surprised anymore. But the last two games probably felt worse than they really were.
It wasn't just that they lost those games, they looked so despondent and so unorganized. They looked terrible before the red card, and looked terrible after it.
