Actually I don't know. I just copied and pasted. Lemme see. EDIT: Minutes played. Must be in thousands? That seems high, doesn't it? MLS didn't have close to a 100 players in the Round of 16. EDIT EDIT: "All numbers are total minutes (per FBRef and/or FotMob) divided by 90. So number of player games, basically. So the 10 for MLS is basically 900 or so minutes.
Thanks for figuring it out! These numbers are quite impressive for MLS. Solidly the 6th best league by this metric through the round of 16. In fact, the round of 16 really groups MLS with the top 5 and every other league is meh (Egypt aside). And, of course, most of the MLS contribution to those numbers didn't come from the USMNT (whereas Egypt's obviously does).
Logan Farrington signs contract extension with Dallas. 6 goals and 4 assists in 780 minutes this season. Tying down the Big Dawg 🐶✍️Logan Farrington has signed a contract extension through 2028 with club options for 2 further seasons! pic.twitter.com/6ifhLu28ZU— FC Dallas (@FCDallas) July 10, 2026

Doesn't mean they can't still move him on to Europe when the right offer comes along. FC Dallas has a long, long history of extending young players, only to sell them within the subsequent year.
Peyton Miller was on a contract for ~115k prior to this extension. Peanuts. In Boston??? He signed that first contract in 2023 when he was only 15, so he was due for an extension. I can't remember if he was the youngest homegrown in Revs history. Maybe Fagundez was slightly younger?? [Edit: Yes. Slightly younger than Fagundez.] We'll presumably find out that he got a significant pay raise and now has additional job security. The Revs ensured he wouldn't leave on a free and will get good compensation if and when transfer offers come in. Its a win-win. It seems like we've had a bunch of young players re-sign with the league recently. [Something I learned today. Eryk Williamson never signed with a pro club after becoming a free agent after the 2025 MLS season. Is he done? Maybe the injuries just did too much damage. Still only 29 years old. it happens, though.]
Totally appropriate. Pay Miller and retain the option (and the leverage) of a mutually beneficial sale. This is how it should be done.
Paxton Pomykal seems done too. He was sitting in the row behind me at the Belgium game. I turn around and say, “Hey are you Paxton Pomykal?” And he said yes. Didn’t seem like he was interested in talking so I left him alone but when Tillman scored he came over and gave me a big double high five. Fun little anecdote. Ran into Kochen at the Paraguay game and then Pomykal at the Belgium game.
Gozo and Mathis Albert were also at the Paraguay game from the photos. Wish you and Pomykal had a better experience that whatever happened against Belgium.
If you had told 2018 me that I would run into Andrew Carleton at TST in 2026 and another BS poster would be sitting in the stands at the 2026 World Cup with Paxton Pomykal, I would have been devastated.
My understanding is that the Union and D.C. United scrimmage ended 1-1.Quinn Sullivan apparently featured, with one person telling me he played "about 30 minutes."Could the Red Bull match mark Quinn's return?#doop #dcunited #mls #usmnt 📸: Carl Gulbish (@carlgulbishpho1) pic.twitter.com/sxpQZVgwgL— José Roberto Nuñez (@JoserNunez91) July 16, 2026
I didn't run into anyone, but I did see what must've been the entirety of Oguchi Onyewu's family sitting below me in the Turkiye match. @TheRightPants and I were looking for the names of all 26 players on the WC roster when he noticed an Onyewu one...and then an Onyewu next to that...and then we realized that the entire row had on Onyewu jerseys of different varieties.
I was wondering if Messi, an active MLS player, is virtually guaranteed to win the Golden Boot. That would be pretty incredible. He's 3 ahead of Oyarzabal of Spain. HOWEVER, yes, goals in the 3rd place game count for the Golden Boot. So.................not so fast. Mbappe, Kane, and Bellingham can still get there. Who knows, though? If there's one game nobody cares about its the 3rd place match at a World Cup. Its possible those guys don't play and the coaches completely rotate their squads.
pure cinema pic.twitter.com/aJP1AelBmR— Real Salt Lake (@realsaltlake) July 16, 2026 I maintain that 6 months from now it will be consensus wisdom we should have taken Gozo to the World Cup.
I think it’s a high chance he wins the golden boot. If Argentina wins he probably wins the golden ball also. The more interesting question is if Argentina wins does he win the Ballon D’Or?
I mean, that right there is basically what Zendejas gives up. Of course, Zendejas is more familiar with playing on the left. With Weah having a bad time over the entire camp, it definitely should have been Gozo.
I think he definitely has a chance, and probably should. With PSG winning the Champions League but without anyone with huge numbers and lots of people thinking Vitinha was their best player ... and then if Messi leads an Argentina that was not an underdog but did not seem to be as stacked as France, Spain or England ... ... how do you say he's not the best player? Who's better? Mbappe? Dembele? They were on the same team and couldn't beat Spain. I could see him doing it. But beating Spain is a big if. If Spain wins ... who wins then? Yamal hasn't done much in the World Cup. Rodri didn't have a big club year. Fabian Ruiz has the common connection but isn't exactly a big name. Rapinoe's win on the women's side in 2019 is only somewhat comparable because of the low visibility. But I remember Europeans complaining that she lacked the club stats ... but if you watched that World Cup and didn't think Rapinoe was deserving, I don't know what you were watching. Messi has more competition and more caring, but he's also the GOAT.
