I haven't watched COL play this season, and I saw that we don't play them in the regular season until October, when we play them twice in the month. How weird... So I had to look up what Matt Doyle says about COL: "Head coach Matt Wells is very committed to not only building from the back, but to playing ultra-physical, fast and furious, high-pressing soccer. ... the Rapids are very obviously (just going by the eye test here) one of the most relentless, hardest-playing teams in MLS." However, he thinks COL players are fatigued, which sounds just like us. Doyle also says that COL are not very good passers. So maybe our strategy will be to try to score early, maybe on an error in the back, just like against Dallas. And then after the Quakes run out of gas at the 60th, try to hold on to a lead. If we get scored on first, maybe we just cave... This Matt Wells is only 37, never made a senior team due to injuries and got his UEFA B license by age 20. Followed Scott Parker around and ended up an off and on asst at Tottenham. His Rapids page notes it was difficult leaving Champions League football. I really hope Bruce can beat this guy...
The game will be shown live on CBS Sports Network, which is available through all linear (cable/satellite/IPTV) providers, and will also be on Paramount+. (I'm DVRing the game on YouTube TV). No free option (CBS Golazo Network) this time around.

Yes I heard their coach in an interview and he’s a bit of a psychopath. The pundits like Doyle were all excited about them for a while and predicting great things and saying how exciting their games are, etc. because they throw caution to the wind and play super physical or whatever, but since then they haven’t done all that well. That said it’ll be a tough game. We’re on a slide and missing some key players, and playing on 3 days rest on the road at altitude.

I think that's when Beau scored a banger and ran to the "Beau knows" sign and stood to the right of it so that everyone could see the sign, and the other guys respectfully lined up to Beau's right so that the sign was still visible, and then Benji ran up and blocked the sign .

Well we’re going with pretty close to our A Team lineup, you know the one that lost to Dallas, on short rest at altitude. Looks like Bruce is prioritizing this game over the Portland game which is probably the right call.
While the San Jose Earthquakes have never reached a U.S. Open Cup final, a win today will send them to only their third-ever semifinal appearance in this tournament. The previous two semifinal appearances were in 2004 and 2017, both times losing at Kansas City. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Zack Steffen is out, which is a bit of a break. If he's on, he's tough to beat. Also, Sealy's son is starting, which makes me slightly more confident although he's scored against us in the past (game winning goal when he was with Dallas), so there is that... Just gotta hope that the gene pool is holding up there a bit.
