Why don't they just go to 198 or 211 whatever the number or recognized federations are, they they can really rake in the dough...

I’m thinking that it will be easier to fix FIFA than to build something new that will look very much like FIFA, but minus the bullshit. I’m hoping that we can find good people within FIFA who can clean house. FIFA have revealed themselves to be hopelessly corrupt. It’s about the money and it has reached the extreme of rigging the game to make more money. It’s just bullshit.

Anyone going to the Britannia Arms or "The Brit Almaden" to watch the England -Argentina game?

In 2019, the San Jose and Montreal Ultras were booted from the back patio of the downtown Brit for singing soccer songs. Not a proper footy bar.

The Almaden & Cupertino Brit always let their patrons sing songs.

I had a colleague from Redlands who was a high school classmate of his. According to her, he wasn't expected to attend classes because, soccer. So, not to oversell the importance of formal education, his ended when he was about 12 years old. I don't think that citing sources or doing arithmetic is his thing.

In his case, his family could have had zero income and the club may have cost $10,000/season and they would have comped him just to get him on the team. Thirty years later, it's still that way -- including for kids without his level of talent, which is essentially all of them. Even poor little AYSO with our $200/season fee -- I gave out scholarships every year to anyone who asked, no documentation required. And those players didn't have to be superstars, in fact, many of them were relatively weak but you know, everyone plays. AYSO used to have him on all their literature but maybe they forgot to have that discussion with him?

Isn’t the back patio of the downtown Brit the birthplace of Soccer Silicon Valley (SSV)? :)

Yes. And the back patio is not what it once was.

I've never rubbed elbows with the current FIFA folks, but I've spent enough time around Federation and Confederation folks to know that the sense of entitlement, confident ease, and pure grubby expectation goes all the way to the top...

I can't decide for whom to cheer today. I will be 100% non-partisan, I think.

Will David Beckham and Lionel Messi still be on friendly speaking terms at Inter Miami CF after today?

If England wins probably not. If Argentina wins, sure. We know who wears the pants in that relationship.

Though interestingly, once Lionel Messi finally retires from playing professionally, he’ll automatically become a co-minority owner of Inter Miami CF alongside David Beckham. :)

Interestingly, climate change is supposed to cause the ocean to swallow Miami. Maybe the two of them can build an arc.
