Omar Gonzalez? Paul Arriola? Bobby Wood? I think we've come a long way since then, but gotta show it on the field.

 

Perhaps the finest Pilsner in the World comes from Plzen in Czechia, Pilsner Urquel, a fine choice, Lots of Switz beers, none of them I've tried particularly memorable.

 

I had a chance to tour Europe with a jazz band when I was about 17. We played in some smaller towns in Belgium, and they'd invite us to some kind of reception and they'd always want to show off the "town beer" there. Good times.

Bruce, Berhalter, and Bob Bradley talking about lineups and WC game against Paraguay. Pretty interesting to see ex-USMNT coaches talk about the team.

Bruce would start Berhalter in midfield, doesn't seem high on Freese, and is concerned about the center CB position (like everyone is). But for some reason didn't mention Chris Richards, who is scheduled to be back from injury and who's very good.

Berhalter kind of humorously punted on his lineup, probably for obvious reasons, and just put "Berhalter" at every position. He said something that didn't make much sense to me - talking about Dest playing on the right on defense in place of Freeman. We're playing a back 3. Freeman is RCB. You're not gonna play Dest at RCB. I think he was basically saying that he liked how he had it, with 4 in the back, Dest as RB and Weah as right winger. But it doesn't make sense in terms of what Poch's formation is clearly going to be at this point.

 

Having watched the whole Bruce, Bradley, Berhalter thing on US vs. Paraguay, Bradley comes out looking the most knowledgeable. He's the only one who presented the lineup as a 3-in-the-back, which I think is the best way to view what we're playing now. And he's the only one who seemed to know a lot about Turkiye. Bruce said he didn't know any of their players. I guess it makes some sense - he's not coaching a team, he has more time. But also I think he is pretty insightful.

Bradley also commented on the physicality of the US team right now, and made a point that it's a hallmark of a Poch team, and Berhalter had to jump in and remind everyone how physical we played against England in the last world cup (something about how much we ran, which I don't think was exactly what Bradley was talking about). Berhalter was in "defending my legacy" mode.

 

Is Turkey in Europe or Asia?

 

According to google, it's 97% in Asia, 3% in Europe.

 

It straddles both continents and plays in UEFA for purposes of FIFA, along with Israel

 

And Turkey is predominately west of Georgia. Imagine that.

 

Duh! Almost every country makes beer! The question is Where can I buy it?! I’m going to have to go to BevMo and Total Wine to see what they have! Shit! I might even have to go to <gasp!> fecking Portland! <insert bad 1950’s horror music> I might need a passport to cross the border! Happily, I just got my passport renewed, so I should be OK.

Dang! Now I have go search for beer! It will be tough, but I think I can handle it.

I’ve been in both parts of Türkiye. Had a great time. And they make good beer too! We had a translator with us, which was great, because the language barrier is steep. And it was really easy to eat there as a vegetarian! Fabulous!

Turkey is in my short list but I wanna wait until things settle down internationally. I might have to wait awhile.

 

Go with a tour group, because you aren’t learning Turkish. It’s a difficult language.

Eggplant is the national vegetable, and large fraction of their cooking is traditionally vegetarian. And be sure to go hot air ballooning in Capadokia. (Sp?)

I think it’s because the people in charge of Bay Area soccer have no clue or don't care about the game.

We have John Fisher who is selling the Earthquakes and he hasn't shown that he even cares about the club since he has been owner.

All he cares about is getting as much as he can for the team and stadium so he can fund his Las Vegas A's.

In 1994, both Peter Bridgwater and Laurie Calloway were in charge of the Bay Area venue.

Both were instrumental in getting Brazil, Switzerland, Colombia, Cameroon, Russia.

They also lucked out in getting the Brazil vs. USA match on July 4th all at Stanford.

Bridgwater especially wanted Brazil in the Bay Area at all costs and he and Calloway, got Brazil to train at Buck Shaw and stay up at Villa Filice in Los Gatos.

They were both in charge as GM and coach of the inaugural San Jose MLS team in 1996.

Say whatever you want about those two but they knew and cared about the game and wanted to see it succeed in the Bay Area.
