Three of the games, Qatar-Switzerland, Türkiye-Paraguay, and Paraguay-Australia, are the "other" games in host team groups, so they got whoever was drawn into those matches, as the host teams were locked into specific matches and locations before the draw. Whomever the host wasn't playing that day is the match in Santa Clara. Since the host teams were in Pot 1, that meant that those matches could not get any of the top-ranked Pot 1 teams, so it was impossible to get Brazil, Argentina, England, Spain, etc. for those games. It was possible to get a team like Japan or South Korea who would have been a big deal, but that didn't happen. Pots 2/3/4 didn't have many obvious big popular teams.

The other two games are Group K, which ended up being Argentina's group. FIFA could have given us Argentina-Algeria on June 16 or Argentina-Austria on June 22, but chose to give Argentina an easier travel burden (KC/Dallas/Dallas) and make the other teams cross time zones. Again that group didn't get any of the more attractive Pot 2/3/4 teams.

We need more hockey hooligans on this board, by the way. :)

Nike's 6-minute "Rip the Script" ad is I dunno, maybe interesting.

Poor Tyler just had a handful of cameos. Even Raul Jimenez did more in the ad. And of all the epic ads I’ve seen so far (Adidas Legends , or Lay’s chips) for this WC, this has the most celebrities - even those with zero (?) connection to footy (looking at you Kardashian).

I guess I've been broken by the world of "shorts" and TV ads. I got bored after 30 seconds. I can't watch 6 minutes of that. It plays like a short but just keeps going and going.

Don’t forget that all of the English-language World Cup coverage on FOX (games, pregame and postgame shows, etc.) will also be available in 4K (i.e. 2160p).

I’m not sure whether or not the Spanish-language World Cup coverage on Telemundo will be, though.

That’s good to know. Thanks!

Another nice thing I’ve noticed is that being in the host country, we here will have the benefit of the games being played and aired live at reasonable hours for us: for example, the U.S.’s first game against Paraguay will be played on Friday, June 12th at 6:00pm PDT, and even Brazil’s first game against Morocco will be the next day at 3:00pm PDT. :)

That’s generally the way it’s always been for each World Cup’s host country (or countries), but IIRC, FIFA instead had nearly all of the 1994 World Cup games played locally around 12:00pm or thereabouts to accommodate prime time viewing in Europe - and in record-breaking heat across the U.S. that summer, no less.

I have four tickets in section 107 ("cat 1") for next Saturday's game and it looks as though we may not be using some or all of them. If anyone is interested, let me know.

Funny - I flew into SJC last Friday and left on Sunday - all for a friend’s (one of the crack Quakes field crew) 80th birthday, I could see doing that for a game because I have nothing better to do with my money…

I’m just curious — if people want to buy tickets, do they go to Stubhub? I just looked at tix on there and saw that a MEX game at the Azteca is 2% away from being sold out, and all seats are thousands of $$$ each.

FIFA has a portal to an exchange where people are selling their tickets too. You have to sign up for a FIFA account to use it. They also have an app that fans will use to show their electronic tickets. I assume Stubhub have transfers within this app worked out.

The mixed messaging is why i'm confused about tix showing up on Stubhub.
Does that mean, if you resell your tix on stubhub, that you have to pay both FIFA's transfer fee and Stubhub's transfer fee?

Stubhub claims their prices include all fees, but I don't know much about how this will operate. The FIFA portal seems safer to me.

I have a ticket that was acquired through StubHub (US v Turks). I had to create an account in the FIFA portal to transfer it to me. Not sure about the fees - it was a Christmas present. :)

    The transaction's path was FIFAPortal(FP)->Stubhub->Kid'sFP->myFP.
I don't think the ticket ever "left" the FP (since you need to use it to get in), there was just a pointer to it on StubHub.

Prepare yourself for the portal; remove all sharp objects, any young children and have a drink ready.

I'm assuming that the Portal and the App are the same - same credentials, etc, ...

I would not assume anything other than the app/portal being a mess. I was trying to pull up the tickets yesterday and the thing just hung. I had to restart it a few times to get it to cough up the tickets. Imagine this on game day.

In retrospect, I am so sorry I was sucked in by the hype last November. I would have rather paid more to get seats I wanted (vs "cat 2" in the SoFi nosebleeds) and will probably end up going to only one game out of the three -- the US game in LA. I am not looking forward to it at all!
