I watched some more game analysis vs the Swiss. Our passing lanes got completely blocked. Passing lanes to Enzo and Mac were blocked and we were forced into a low block!!!! Thats why Dibu had no option but to blast it to no one. The main reason for this we don't have wingbacks and the midfield is WAY too static. And of course DePaul making the wrong movement almost every single time
Except, according to English pundits, we are rubbish, slow, old and will be no match for England's pace and power.
Their pressing wouldnt work as easily if our midfield has been much more mobile. Austria did the same thing but we're able to dealt with it because our players were still fresh and combative. The midfield were still covering spaces. Look how quick our team moves and countering once Lopez, Lautaro & Almada came in. Football isnt a rocket science . Decisions such as not bringing Zanetti to WC 2006 & 2010 has nothing to do with logic but rather based on personal favoritism. The same reason why Scaloni refuse to acknowledge the existence of Paz , Barco, Gio, Simeone.
The stupidest part is Scaloni had the chance to blood these guys in the easier knockout games. Now if he wants to switch things up and actually use them they're being thrown to the wolves in a highly emotional and difficult match.
He could have played some of them in the games when we had already qualified for the world cup, he would ocassionaly give the odd one a game and then they would never be seen again. Such a shame.
Don’t be silly. Argentina-England is about as big as a rivalry gets due to both political and sporting reasons. Even Brazil feels less like a rivalry to me, and more like you just trying to get one over your annoying brother. But with England it gets heated given all the antecedents and IMO is much more personal.
🚨Lionel Scaloni tried out Giuliano Simeone yesterday in training. The chances of him starting against England has increased. #Argentina pic.twitter.com/OUge9Sr4eD— CA VA🐐 (@psg__chief) July 13, 2026
Its still just football game as Scaloni said. I dont know how the younger Argentine generation views the Falkland thing etc, but as non-native Argentina supporter I dont any emotional attachment to that. Its all about footballing matter. But I get what you're saying.
I think England is a bigger rivalry as far as how it's been played on the pitch, because both teams kind of lose their minds in the emotion of it. Might be different this time around as it's been such a long time and entirely different generation, but probably not. Brazil is a bigger rivalry as far as actually being persistently competitive and relevant, but the games themselves usually don't descend into chaos.
I completely get it, and I'm not Argentinian, but a lot of people in the non-western world got it. Oh, it's Malvinas.
Argentina vs Brazil in CA 91 produced 5 reds. Even the recent win, you'd see them constantly throwing barbs at Argentina before and during the game. Argentina obviously always retaliates on the field. Raphina shoving Tagliafico and Paredes taunting Rodrygo, the last time we played England, I didnt see much drama to be honest. If we're going to relive the 66, 86 & 98 encounters then yeah. But even the 98 & 02 rivalries, Beckham & Cholo always seems very casual when retelling the story.
Brazil is currently at the bottom of me caring. That's how it goes rivalries can be cyclical, they just simply arent that good. Different story back in 2000s when they kept beating us no matter what. Last time vs England I think was under Pekerman with his signature choke job I think we lost 3-2 I remember watching live. Thats a long time ago.
What really happened was that Scaloni tried out Papu Gomez who had come along to provide some comic relief with his stand up routine at the hotel. Before Aimar took him to one side Lionel this is 2026 not 2022.......
Enzo needs to go back to being a central midfield. He was always going to be Paredes replacement but he is currently delusional thinking he can be an AM. He is just not. At this point, even Almada is better there and its not even close. Mac is exactly a similar issue, I dont know what he is. Him and Enzo are literally like some slow goal poachers LoL. Mac looks like he is a 40 years old midfielder. He plays advanced but cannot dribble past anyone. As much as DePaul gets criticism, he was always just a work horse with everything else just a bonus. These 2 are a bigger problem
In fact, I’d bet that this rivalry is one-sided—the English couldn't give a damn about the Falklands War, fifty years on. What is a one-sided rivalry? A ridiculous obsession.
We don't need your comments in here thanks. There are plenty here who do give a damn about that war. So if you don't know what you're talking about as usual best to keep quiet. By the way OM won't win anything for decades to come. Tinpot club.
Ridiculous obsession you mean like english obsession with the hand of God and Beckham sending off lol. Meanwhile you think we should forget a war where argentines were killed...sure bro
Personally, if you asked me about a week ago, I would’ve said “It’s been a while since we’ve played one another. Hostilities have calmed down…” But over the last couple of days, just since what the Neanderthal brains of the British have been saying about us,‘it’s on. I’ve mentioned it before, they are the ones talking like they are the dominant footballing power. Bro, what have you won other than a single World Cup 60 freakin years ago. Know your place and go sit at the children’s table. You don’t get to talk to us like we are equals. We are not equals, nowhere near it. We have a long rich history while they do not have shit. I’ve also seen a lot of their fans starting to provoke our fans in places like Miami and etc. I think it’s their inbred fans just have no idea how to win and act like the way they do.
You should not, but bringing it up on a football pitch 45 years later is stupid. Nationalism is inherently stupid. Nationalism on a football pitch is even more so.
