I've been doing a lot of thinking

I feel that if we didn't get the experience of the suffering and coming back against the likes of Cape Verde, Egypt and Switzerland, I don't think that the team would have had the mentality to have made that comeback against England. Over the course of this tournament, this team has built this belief and mental fortitude to the point where that whatever adversity or challenges that this team faces, they have the ability and the willpower to overcome it. They have genuine confidence that even when Gordon scored that goal, I wasn't nervous at all as I knew that this team has faced this type of situation before and shown they can overcome it time after time after time again. Now, I am grateful that this team and us as fans got to experience these challenges.

That is something that no matter how much you put into practice in the training ground, it's incredibly hard to replicate that when it actually matters the most. Spain will be incredibly difficult and we can lose the final but I know that this team has this inevitable aura and belief that they won't let the fans down.

 

The crazy thing is that in the last 50 years, we’ve been to six finals. Out of the 13 Mundials, we’ve been in 6 of those finals. Nobody has reached more finals in this time frame.
Germany has been in 5 but you can count 6 if you want to count 74.

Three finals in four world cups is something unbelievable for those of us who lived through those 24 years without making it to semis even once.

 

The reason we managed to pulled it through in previous matches was also because we've been facing similar situation multiple times. CA 21 semi, WC 22 quarter & final and CA 24 quarter. Even CA 24 final was decided by goal at 112th minute. We've been on the edge too many times that it has became a normal situation for the players.

WC 22 final was the craziest final in history and we emerged victorious. Messi missing a penalty , going down behind, being equalized, being out possessed for long period, nothing fazes this team.

You could tell Egypt, Switzerland and England went panic once we went full attacking mode.

 

Who knew when we were enduring the days of Bauza, Sampaoli in 2018 that this was all coming

And even first 2 years of Scaloni the bench had Matias Suarez, Casco, Pizarro, anyone remember Lucas Pratto?

2018 was so worth it for all these years

Lautaro became only the 4th Argentina player to reach 40 goals for the national team. (+ 13 assists).

This is also the NT highest scoring campaign at the WC history, with 19 goals.

 

Biggest priority is not let them play their possession game all day.

The key is to beat them on quick transition when we have the ball like Netherlands did in 2014, or Brazil in 2013. If we're stroking the ball at the back, we'd eventually fall into their trap.

It’s a little too early to talk about that game. Let’s try to enjoy this for at least tonight. But I’ll say this, Belgium showed that they can get to Spain. If Courtois doesn’t get hurt(Which actually turned out to be a false alarm) maybe Belgium could’ve done something more. Maybe push the game to ET.

France played two in midfield, which was as stupid as the brazucas when they got whipped 4-1 in BsAs. Spain packed the midfield and passed around them.

Scaloni needs to keep on eye on a couple players, which is obvious by de la Fuente can play them as decoys.

The Spain game will be completely different as a start because we'll need stronger defending on the left side instead. I don't think Simeone starting makes as much sense in that case but Scaloni will surely know better.

 

England fan. You deserved to win. It was a very cagey first half, no team created anything. Second half we started brightly and got the first goal. But it was a typical England response after that, sit back and defend when that is just asking for trouble. Tuchel's tactics were to kick long balls and not try to beat your press or control the match. It was poor goalkeeping for your first goal and then nonexistent marking for your second, but we deserved it for going negative against a team on paper of a similar calibre. Our two best players Bellingham and Kane did absolutely nothing, whereas Messi showed up when it mattered with two assists.

Truth is our history at major tournaments, 1966 aside, is below the levels of the truly top European teams like Germany, France, Italy and Spain. I predicted we'd go out on penalties last night but we couldn't even get to that stage. I just didn't think we'd have the mentality to see it through and it showed. You have a track record of getting to world cup finals (1978, 1986, 1990, 2014, 2022) and we don't. We have the same number of major tournament wins as Portugal and the Netherlands, much smaller nations than us, and the Netherlands have still managed three world cup finals to our one.

I'm not quite sure why we were favourites to win yesterday. Both teams had looked unconvincing throughout the tournament, but Argentina has a much stronger mentality than England. In a game of such fine margins, your passion and will to win was always going to beat our hard work and 'effort'. This mentality still hasn't changed even after 60 years of not winning anything.

Good luck against Spain in the final.

 

Every Argentina game at the knockout stage of this world cup brings me closer to death. I'm completely drained this morning.
