All things considered, I think regardless what happened in semi or final, the team has shown us strong fighting spirit. Even if the starting line-up and tactic has been underwhelming, but that's on Scaloni's part. The only one player who didnt do jacksh!t outside the first game is RDP.

For this match, my main gripe is not the fact that we are not playing the young players, but more of the tactics. You want to go long ball because you are concerned of losing possession in dangerous area? Fair enough, but you can't go long ball with just Julian who isn't the paciest. Nico G. or Simeone should have came in at the 45th minute to provide that outlet. It was painfully obvious and I don't know what goes through Scaloni's head sometimes, especially this tournament.

 

Maybe if the 4 mids were fresh we would have possession. And the alarms about Enzo from the chelsea forums were very accurate. Same for Mac with his season Liverpool. And same with RDP. Do they step up with argentina? Yes of course but its not enough and when you add fatigue, no width, no speed and having to take workload of Messi it becomes impossible.

Of course it wasnt Scaloni plan to gove possession to the Swiss. He thought he would dominate but he is denial of reality.

Enzo in this Chelsea team + in this current Argentina team is running a lot without possession and Enzo's body isn't made to run. It's like asking Kroos to do the running and then his body isn't meant to run, gets gassed and can't control the ball well.

 

Scaloni should just start Almada instead of Enzo. Keep Enzo as sub for Paredes.

Enzo had a really good season for a pretty average Chelsea team. Mac had a poor season with Liverpool, looked slow and off form all year. The back heel by Mac and the shot by Molina are 2 of the dumbest choices I've ever seen made a player on a football pitch.

 

Enzo had a good season only stats wise. He pops up with a goal after being absent the whole game. Tracks with how he played for us so far. Tbh I am not sure what he is anymore. Is he a an attacking Mid? A central midfielder? And he looks like he plays in slow motion. I mean he was always slow but this is too much

 

I would overhaul this entire midfield except for Paredes. Molina also out he is useless put Simeone i dont care if he never even played RB. At this point we cant keep possession and cant counter either. Its like the worst of all worlds

 

Yeah, Enzo had a good season scoring goals and getting assists, but you're right, apart from that he was s**t. Seriously, I give in.

 

We are seeing it with our eyes. Its possible to play like shit then score a goal like vs Egypt. Majority of Chelsea fans say the same...if he was playing great they would at least tolerate him. Do you just go by stats and fifa rankings?

Molina had a pretty decent game. Apart from that. The ball should have been squared to Julian who was completely unmarked. Would have been 2-0.

Actually I think we played decently in the first half closing them down, forcing them into errors and generally controlling the game. Good to see the set pieces work again. Alexis has been a focal point for the near post delivery.

But you could clearly see the players tiring in the second half. I was swearing at Scaloni and if I was there I would have slapped him. He yet again is almost responsible for all the issues. They couldn't control the ball, the legs were gone and the Swiss were dominating possession and it was inevitable they would score (once again from the flank).

Yet he made no changes prior to the goal only after and the same so predictable ones. It's fortunate that Embolo was sent off probably Paredes best action of the night. It swung the game back our way. Had it continued I reckon the Swiss might have won that.

He's done this before at the last WC. He seems unable to read situations and the measures required to change them.

He was forced into bringing on Lopez and what do you know it's his control taking the three defenders with him and a precise pass to Julian that stunning second goal. He has to make changes for England. The players some of them are gassed.

It was staggering not to see Palacios on for Paredes earlier too. Paredes had a poor game and indeed the tactics throughout were poor. We were bailed out largely to individual brilliance and effort.
