Just an FYI, The Athletic is bringing all of their World Cup coverage in front of the paywall: NYT-owned The Athletic, normally paywalled, says it is making its World Cup coverage free to read in its app until the day of the final on 19 July.— Press Gazette (@pressgazette) June 11, 2026
I was confused at first because it looked like it hit the post. Turns out the ball bounced back out so fast because it hit a camera.
It was a clever goal...it just looked like it rolled in slow motion before it crossed the line. And South Korea take the lead!!
Before the Czech goal I was convinced it was headed for 0-0. It's been a great game since that moment.
Czechia wasted its last 2 possessions. 6 minutes of added time is a bit less than I was expecting, what with all the substitutions and goals scored in the second half, plus the hydration break.
Fun second half! I missed the opening match today as I was mowing the yard. What little of MEX-RSA I saw after I got out of the shower was pretty dull, except for the sending off of the Mexican player.
The fans were in good voice - just not in those expensive Cat 1 seats. This Michael Buble preview for the Canada game is pretty good.
Awkward broadcast moment: Owen Hargreaves, you're Canadian born and bred: what does this moment mean for you? (Hargreaves rather famously declined to play for Canada in favor of England.)
At least the weather in Toronto is excellent today. It seems like every home game TFC played this spring, the weather was crummy.
I'd edit this to say mandatory water breaks regardless of the wet bulb reading are a plot to create commercial breaks during soccer games. I wouldn't mind these during the third group games to keep them more-or-less simultaneous. But otherwise, there's no need.
