Why would FIFA bend over backwards to give Fox extra commercial slots, when they already gave them the entire tournament rights for free and failed to get them back with their lawyers when they came to regret it?
It's always hard to assess Iran before the World Cup because Asian qualifying happens so early and they seem to never play friendlies against strong opponents. The only World Cup qualified teams they've faced in the year since they qualified are Uzbekistan and Cape Verde, both debutants. (To be completely fair, they also played Nigeria who usually qualify.)
It still says Cape Verde on their embassy webpage and Republic of Cape Verde on their UN mission page.
This has been a more enjoyable watch than Uruguay v. Saudi Arabia. Both teams trying to play attacking soccer. Neither team is particularly good, but they are playing hard.
Cabo Verde is the official name with FIFA. Not that we always go with that -- who wants to say Korea Republic or China PR? But I wish everyone would go with Cabo Verde just to avoid the variety of pronunciations of "Verde" I've heard from American or British commentators: rhymes with herd, rhymes with paired, rhymes with wordy, rhymes with word-day, as well as reasonable attempts at a Portuguese or Spanish pronunciation.
I agree. It's not exactly high-quality soccer, but it's the most entertaining match of the day, at least, for both sides in the first half of play.
