Argentina have recent history against them this Sunday. Four of the last five WC finals (and each of the last four Euro ones) have been been won by the side with the extra day's rest. Only Espana in 2010 lifted the trophy with less rest (they also needed extra time against the Dutch to prevail).
I'd go with the same team as last game but with Gonzalez instead of Simeone. RDP and Montiel would be more useful to finish the match.
Imo, I would go with the same lineup as we did vs England. The only way to combat Spain's midfield is to overload it with numbers and the best way to overload it imo is by having False 9 Messi. Oyarzabal will drop deep, but even then I do feel that we should have enough to compete the midfield battle. Simeone on the ball didn't had a good game, but it's the off the ball that we should be valued the most and be a pest to Cucurella. I would have RDP and Montiel as subs as later on, Baena will be subbed out for Nico Williams and Montiel would be more suited to dealing with Nico Williams than Molina. Plus Molina knows how Baena operates and vice versa. For Yamal, we might need to employ the same tactic as we did against Neymar in the Copa America 2021 final where each individual Argentina players take turn in hacking down Yamal (I love Yamal so hopefully no injuries occur to him). In terms of subs, Scaloni should maybe go with a similar sub as that of England. Nico G. has been very effective coming off from the bench so probably think that for this game, we should stick to the same game plan. I'm sure DLF will employ Llorente as a sub to counter this. Overall, this is a real football match so I'm really looking forward to this match. Confident that we have what it takes to win. Vamos Argentina!
Imo Simeone's energy was worth it even if he can't really play. He played like he was ready to die on the field. No way can RDP run up and down like this. I would mind a copy paste of our lineup vs England
It's kind of amusing seeing the same "analysts" that said Spain had no chance against France now say Argentina has no chance against Spain (oh and most of them said Argentina had no chance against England too). Gee if only there were something more predictive than just who has the most hype and won most easily.
If Porro plays target him. Maybe they play Llorente. I'd play a fresh Barco up against him but Barco's temper does concern me. We need to take their FBs backwards. Again I would try a 3-5-2. Press up on them stop them from playing out and stifle their midfield. Again we could have Licha/Barco cover Yamal. The thing is to test that defence. Set pieces, win free kicks, press high when needed. Belgium caused them significant problems as did Cabo Verde on transitions. Cubarsi is still a kid and Laporte does have brainfarts from time to time. I'm going to watch the Belgium game to see something if possible. I'm sure Manna and Scaloni are analyzing already. This team has come so far. It's hard to get to a WC final so it would be nice to win again. The extra rest.......Well all those games were close and these players will give it their all. Maybe 1-2 fresh players like Paz and Barco could make the difference when needed. Some WC finals the unexpected player has made the difference. It would be so glorious if we did win and Messi scored.
So here we are. Another final. May the gods favor us for this one. Its great to see you all here again. 20 something years later.
To think THIS game would have been our Round of 32 match-up if Uruguay had beaten Spain in the group stage, and now it’s the final
I like the fact that we are the underdogs here. Just going around and reading some of the predictions, some even said 4-1 and 3-1 to the Gallegos. Our last game was very emotional, which is why I wanted Norway. I didn’t want the England match* to take anything out of our players. Let’s reset and get ready for the final. Nothing left. Four straight finals with majority of this group. Can’t ask for more.
We've been doing well considering that we've been playing with 10 players but on Sunday having 11 would really help us out
Lmao. His defending is so bad, it will be better to just have a cone. Legit he gets in the way of others trying to defend. And his attacking contributions are non-existent. He raises his hand to get the ball only to pass it back
Hahah exactly! He shouts for the ball only to pass it back or pass it in the middle if he manages to control the ball which isnt easy for him. His passes are also ass. He gives his teammates shit passes or plays it out. He is so stiff as well, no agilty. A fullback should have at least some agility and mobility. The guy's turning radius is of an old man
makes no sense when we consider Argentina have scored the most goals and Spain the least of the final 4. Yes Spain have the best defence but it is most likely a 1-0 1-1 2-1 game. Spain always want to manage a 1 goal lead or find a 1 goal lead if it is 0-0 they think in steps. They have no interest in the risks that trying to go up 3-1 4-1 brings.
How do you guys rate Messi World Cup 2026 vs 2022? Like, which version would you prefer in your team?
Perhaps start with same line up, obviously replace Molina with Montiel, Simeone pace, for all his shortcomings, does worry the opposition. Wouldn't it be nice if we could win this game 2 nil. I'm still exhausted from yesterday.
Messi has adjusted his game. He cannot run as fast and as long. But his mind is razor sharp. He is more creative according to these stats. But when needed the energy he has saved he uses in devastating fashion or as we saw yesterday defensively to head off Nico O'Reilly. He looks like he is 25 again for a short while. He just analyzes things on the field so well. As teams tire and cannot maintain a marker on him or zonal marking on him he comes to the fore. He starts to find space and get past tiring defenders and orchestrating things often to deadly effect. As someone said yesterday he was using the first half to work out what he needed to do in the second.
I don't think that Spain has ever played in a hot humid I would also like to add that he is a lot freer after winning the World Cup. That baggage that he carried for more than a decade has been removed from him and he can play the game a lot more calmly and reduced pressure.
