There is already a weird rivalry forming between USA and Scotland on social media. Some USA fans seem to want them in the draw and that has riled some Scottish fans.

Saw something similar on Facebook involving Australia and Scotland. There was a post by some Australia site claiming having Scotland would be amongst the easiest group which rilled up quite a few Scots.

I get why Scotland would be annoyed at that tbf. I don't know why people seem to think they're the runts of the litter in that pot, at a minimum there are 4-5 weaker teams than them in pot three. A fully fit Scotland are quite a bit better than Australia on paper, and probably collectively too. I think the US are clearly better than Scotland though and would beat them if they draw them.

The Scots always underperform massively on the big stage tbf which probably affects their global reputation in these situations. Even if they were drawn into a favourable group with one of the weaker teams from each pot, you could still envision a scenario where they don't qualify. I remember they were very confident about getting out of their Euro 2024 group but I said on here I didn't think they'd win a game (they got 1 point in the end).

Like I said on the other thread. You've got teams that will win the Euro playoffs, who are better than most of Pots 3 and 4.

The seeding for this World Cup is completely fu**ed up. Then you've got the host nations who are in Pot 1. Which usually doesn't disturb the balance of the seeding, if the host nations in Pot 1.
But because you've now got three host teams in Pot 1, the seeding is all over the shop.

I think Scotland will come home in the groups with two losses and a draw. Their performance against Denmark was a complete anomaly. And now everyone is making out that game to be the norm (for them), predicting they'll cause some kind of upset at this World Cup...

But in reality, their game a few days earlier against Greece is more typical of how they usually play. Scotland historically don't perform well under pressure. And unless they get a generous draw from Pot 1 and 4, I can't see them progressing. I don't think they've ever gone past the group stage of a major tournament.

Now if Rep of Ireland manage to qualify, I can see them actually getting out of the groups. I do not want England to have to play Ireland at this world cup.

It's all about the fourth pot I think.

The septics want Scotland as it reduces the odds of getting a European team in pot 4. All depends on their pot 2 though

They already have limited options with the Suriname and Haiti being in there along with the Intercontinental playoffs.

Prepare for a long over run then as I can see a couple of minutes lasting way longer.

  9. Balls don't leave actual pots until 5.55

Suppose we've got Trump getting made-up peace prizes and Robbie Williams until then.

  11. It'd be nice if we were the beneficiaries of some FIFA chicanery, in terms of avoiding Miamihttps://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-15345639/Glitz-theatre-Donald-Trump-World-Cup-draw-promises-intrigue-lets-hope-players-not-presidents-politics-centre-stage-main-event-begins-writes-CRAIG-HOPE.html
The Kennedy Centre is next door to the infamous Watergate Hotel, and whispers of conspiracy abound that FIFA’s four precious top seeds, of which England are one, will be afforded favourable treatment when fixtures and locations are confirmed on Saturday.

So we have the Canadian Prime minister, the President of Mexico along with obviously Trump. Is it me or is this even more political than ever before? I don’t ever remember heads of state being present for a World Cup draw before or?

Not sure about draw, but like the Olympics it would seem normal to me that the head of state would have some role.

Jonathan Pierce said at the start it's going to take roughly an hour from the first ball drawn to its completion, so you'd imagine 6 at the latest.

That Kennedy Centre must be some size to contain three egos as huge as Trump, Infantino and Robbie blinkin' Williams.

Inventing a fifa peace prize just to give to play to Trumps ego for not winning the novel peace prize has to be one the most laughably servile things I've ever seen.

Anyone with a single ounce of self awareness would be insulted by such an obviously manipulative ploy, but Trump is not one of those people.

I do think given how Infantino has been behaving with this world cup, there should be legitimate fears over putting their finger on the scale for the US. Not for winning or anything but it'd be a disaster for him if they went out early.

Yeah I mean it’s not unusual to see them in the stadiums watching the events or football but I just can’t ever remember for the World Cup draw.

unHot take: This World Cup pre-draw festivity is God-awful. You can tell it’s being produced and run by state-media-controlled FIFA—not Hollywood, which kowtows to no controlling authority but entertainment and free expressions.

I bet all the football people in that arena are secretly just wanting this thing to be over already! Already seen some faces who look like they have swallowed a wasp.
