The draw for the CONCACAF Champions Cup is set for today, Tuesday, 12/9 at 4 pm Pacific According to Guesman, we probably would prefer not to have a game in Week 1 because that doesn't give us much time to sign and integrate new players during training camp and might limit our ability to scrimmage teams and participate in the Coachella Valley Invitational. We may not have a choice, however, because the MLS CBA mandates that players be given a 6 week break from the end of the last game and the start of the first preseason practice, which may affect some of the MLS teams that advanced far in the playoffs. Despite being epically bad during much of the 2025 MLS regular season, we're apparently in the top 8 ranked teams after the teams receiving the bye, ahead of San Diego FC
Galaxy draw Sporting San Miguelito (Panama), which won the play-in game of the Central American Cup. If the Galaxy advance, they play Mt. Pleasant (Jamaica), which won the the Concacaf Caribbean Cup The toughest first round match is probably Pumas v. San Diego FC
Did they announce when the game happens? I know the Galaxy were hoping (like all MLS teams) to be in the "B" group that has their games start a week later (aka more time to train before the games start).
Not yet according to CoG. Since it's a home and away series, we'll be racking up the airline miles regardless. No Schedule yet. No CVI announcement yet. Need the schedule to confirm CVI participation. Because of mandatory rest periods for teams like San Diego/Nashville/Vancouver we have to wait. #LAGalaxy #MLS https://t.co/dpfBgfnLNk— Corner Of The Galaxy (@GalaxyPodcast) December 10, 2025 It will come out soon. I don't have a timeline but I know it's already being worked on. Lots of things hinging on it. https://t.co/Q8K3kjgq9T— Corner Of The Galaxy (@GalaxyPodcast) December 10, 2025
Yeah it sure seems that way. Or maybe the other team is thinking "Oh good, we got the Galaxy, thank goodness..."
your thought process is a lot more positive than mine, I was thinking which one of these teams is going to bounce the Galaxy
This ranking seems pretty legit. And has the Galaxy with the best draw out of the MLS teams. https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/concacaf-champions-cup-2026-which-mls-teams-got-the-hardest-draw
Schedule is set for our first round games. Game 1: Away Thursday, Feb 19 at 5 pm Pacific Game 2: Home Wednesday, Feb 25 at 8 pm Pacific (included in season ticket member package) Positive: We avoid the early week and we have more time for preseason training and to integrate any new signings into the team Negative: We have to start the season with a three game week because our home opener is Sunday, Feb. 22. So, we start the season in Panama (a 6+ hour flight), then fly back for the home opener three days later, and then host the CCC again three days after that.
I think 2 weeks extra preseason is worth the busy start. Poor San Diego has to play Pumas in first week of February.
Concacaf has started posting the official rosters of the participating teams in this year's Concacaf Champions Cup Below is the LA Galaxy roster (which presumably will be supplemented with Klauss). The one name that may be unfamiliar to people is Riley Dalgado. He is a former Galaxy Academy player who has played with VCFC the last couple of years. A year ago, the Galaxy signed him to a MLSNP deal with VCFC through 2025 that would convert to a Galaxy HG deal in 2026. He is a left back, so I very much doubt that he would see time with Nelson and Aude available unless there are injury or fixture congestion issues. After being out part of the 2025 VCFC season with injuries, he likely needs a full year there (plus a step up in performance) to put himself in the Galaxy's plans. Nevertheless, it is still worth noting that he is a new addition to the roster. Also, it's interesting to note that Yoshida and Reus won't be the oldest players on the pitch against Sporting San Miguelito. They have a midfielder, Armando Cooper, who is 38. He's a former Panama National Team player who played on the team in 2017 when it beat Costa Rica in the 88th minute to send Panama to the World Cup instead of the US. He's also played all over the world, most notably in MLS with Toronto FC under Greg Vanney, where he was a starter in the 2016 MLS Cup final against Seattle.
Just to confirm the above about Klauss, teams that have rostered fewer than the max 35 players can add players to the roster up to 44 hours before each game. So this won't impact any additions after preseason or even later than that.
TLDR; we aren't very high on the list: https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/ranking-which-mls-clubs-could-win-2026-concacaf-champions-cup

Rindov, Thommy, and Parente out for the first Concacaf Champions Cup game and Wynder is questionable. Not ideal. We may not be dealing with serious injuries, but we need depth to get through the first couple of weeks of fixture congestion. Injury Updates per Greg Vanney ahead of CCC and MLS Kickoff Weekend: C. Rindov is out E. Thommy is outE. Wydner is Questionable #LAGalaxy— Alex Ruiz (@AlxRuiz15) February 16, 2026

This is something that is worrying for the World Cup, but I guess it is good for us now Galaxy Concacaf opponent Mount Pleasant may be short 10 players because of visa woes @LAGalaxy https://t.co/wslxnIwETU— Kevin Baxter 🇺🇦🏳️🌈🇵🇷 (@kbaxter11) March 6, 2026
State dept doesn’t ban entry for no reason. Would be nice if the reporter asked WHY those specific players were denied visas
Haiti is one of the countries on the travel ban where they are not granting visas, so I think that's why those players were denied. Don't know about the others, but it sounded like they were from various other countries on the list. The question is why they weren't eligible for the exemption for players traveling for int'l sporting events.
San Diego is down to 9 men and Toluca hits the penalty to make it 3-2 in the 90th. Definitely a crazy game. Last man standing wins I guess.
