If FIFA goes through with the potential (?) rule about clubs not being required to release players who are in the Club World Cup this could really affect the Gold Cup Roster.

Which European teams will become clearer on lucky Friday, December 13th after the UEFA WCQ draw.

After that draw, look for the UEFA teams in groups of 4 instead groups of groups of 5 that do not need to play in the UEFA Nations League ¼finals.

 

I'd lean more towards an African team, and maybe a group of 4 UEFA team (though those would likely be b/c teams given end of club season/Club World Cup).

I don't think this can happen, as England were drawn into a group of 5.

For June, the only good options are to invite a higher ranked African team or one of the following UEFA teams [I've ranked them by current FIFA ranking] :
• The loser between the Germany[10] vs Italy[9] matches in March
• The loser between the Denmark[21] vs Portugal[6] matches in March
20 Switzerland
25 Ukraine
27 Sweden
28 Turkey
30 Hungary
39 Greece
41 Slovakia
45 Scotland
55 Slovenia
68 Georgia
60 Ireland
70 Iceland
71 Northern Ireland
The other UEFA teams available are ranked below 80

US Soccer likes to confirm these things in advance so I'd guess they'll invite Switzerland, Sweden, Scotland or Ireland instead of England.

 

I messed up. The loser of Germany vs Italy shouldn't be on that list.
Also up to 6 other UEFA teams could be available based on the schedules of the groups of 5.

So England may yet be an option.
