Speaking of women's soccer - CU has a great team this season one of the top 8 or so in the country. They host Utah Valley on Friday night at Prentup Field in Boulder at 7pm in the first round of the NCAA tourney, The Buffs feature one of the leading scorers in the country, Hope Leyba, who has 21 goals in 21 games. All tickets for this match are $12.
It wasn't even the lower bowl. Those were blocked. (I got the first row in level three.) I think the ticket price was $74 or something, which with processing fees and taxes closed in on $100. I guess I should have purchased a 5280 membership for $52.80, which when you add $34 with taxes etc. Whatever. They seem to be doing all the right things. I'd love to see them get the record for a NWSL game. Oh, and go Rapids! ;-)
MLS will be on Apple TV next year without any additional charge beyond the normal Apple TV subscription.
It will be interesting to see, if they get 50K or so for Mile High and sellout each game a the temporary stadium at 12K is the Summit average attendance higher than the Rapids next season? I assume that has not happened in a market yet?
In case you weren’t in Boulder last night- The Beautiful Game #SCTop10 pic.twitter.com/IP6wK0TbZJ— Colorado Buffaloes Soccer (@CUBuffsSoccer) November 15, 2025 Reagan Kotschau is the daughter of former Rapid Ritchie Kotschau.
I still can't believe they waived off CU's first tying goal when the goalie's clear hit Leyba right in the middle of her face, bounced back into the goal, and the ref waived it off for a handball. Do they not have reviews in NCAA tournament games? Love to see them win the next round and make the final 16. That team plays with heart.
Reagan is damn good. I've been shouting that the Denver Summit should be eye balling her and Hope Leyba. The scary thing.... Reagon may not be the best Kotschau of them all. Marin, a junior at Broomfield, has already verbally committed to North Carolina. She's been heavily involved with the U16 and U18 USYNT. Maron is in the top 3 or 4 female youth players I've come up against in my 18 years of coaching.
Marin needs to change her commitment Denver Summit should be keeping an eye on Faith Leyba as well. Reagan has six game winning goals this season, she's also had some critical assists. As a CU fan I hope that Hope is back at CU next season. The Buffs play Xavier on Thursday in East Lansing, MI in the second round of the NCAA tourney.
Hey... I know! hate UNC as much as anyone. I played for and graduated from a school that has a better looking shade of blue and two more (8 total) NCAA basketball championships than UNC. But damn....... it's hard to argue against those 22 National Championships and 6 runner-ups in women's soccer. Agreed. My daughter and I have been several games this season. In the first game we saw vs NM State, my daughter points to a Leyba goes "holy crap, Dad... that girl is all over the place. She's a center back and a 9?" I point to the other Leyba and go... "no, look [pointing] twins... #45 and #44". Now as a budding CB, my 13 year old, wants to watch CU just for Faith Leyba.
Faith is physically and mentally tough + she has great recovery speed. In the UVU match she made a crunching slide tackle in the box early in the match and in OT blocked a shot that was going to end the match. Prior to the season I felt she was the one player on this team that might have a shot at an NWSL roster. Perhaps Hope has caught up . There's whole BigSoccer page dedicated to the Buffs - I'd love to see more posts!
Can Jordan play at that level? She certainly has the leg and instincts. Just wonder about her height. Keepers are usually taller. But I love her competitiveness.
I have been pondering this question for a while. Jordan Nytes is listed a 5-7. She has a lot of the attributes that would giver her a shot at making a NWLS roster, minus height. Spain and Barcelona's starting keeper, Cata Coll, is also listed at 5-7 and she's not had a bad career. Former Buff keeper JJ Tompkins is 5-7 and she has now in her sixth professional season in Europe. Currently she is with Brøndby in Denmark. A number of players on this CU squad will play professionally, but not at all at the NWSL/top Euro level.
Jordan is better than Thompkins. And Jordan’s leg strength is much stronger…frankly as strong as I’ve seen. Granted I’m partial to her being she’s from Colorado. Go Buffs tomorrow at 2 pm.
1pm MT is when the CU v Xavier match kicks off on ESPN+ Agree that Nytes’ clearances are much stronger than JJ’s. Note only is Nytes from Colorado- 8 of the starting XI are.
CU is up 2-0 at HT. Dominant 1st half. Both goals off corners. Faith Leyba and Kotschau with the goals. East Lansing looks miserable on a cold drab day but the Buffs are shining bright thiugh
So is the coaching staff. Well…. Sanchez and Jason Green has been in CO for 20+ years. Dave Morgan, (Northglenn HS / Metro St) and Jacy Drobney (Longmont) are Natives. I’ve always appreciated that CU has always had a bulk of the roster from CO. Then again…. with the quality of girls soccer in the state, they don’t need to look outside CO too often.
4-1 Buffs! Hope Leyba sealed the win in the 87th minute with a beautiful, strike from 35+ yards that dipped just under the bar and passed the GKs hands. What a strike! Xavier got on the board in the 89th minute. The Buffs added in insurance goal in the 90th minute via Riley McDonald
11 am Sunday against MI State, who dominated Wake Forest in a 1-0 win. They are a physically imposing team…but we can take them.
1-0 MSU. Not a great start for CU…. Gave up a 1st minute goal to the Spartans. They will have to dig deep now. MSU is peppering CU with shots. Nytes coming up big several times in the opeing 15 minutes of the match.
1-1! CU ties it up in the 33rd agains the run of play. CU sends in a corner to the back post and Faith Leyba hits a shot in the crowded 6 yard box and the ball finds its way thru traffic and into the next. Goal might be credited to Lexi Meyer as it could have take a slight deflection of her. Either way…. Goal and tied game!
