The SoftBank Hawks are the 2025 Interleague champions following their 3-1 victory over the Hanshin Tigers at Koshien Stadium. It's is the ninth Interleague title for the club, their first since 2019. No other team has won Interleague more than twice. Colombian Jeter Downs two-RBI double in the 4th inning was enough to give the Hawks the win on the day. Haru Matsumoto allowed an unearned run while striking out 7 batters over 5 innings to get the win.
The Hawks were actually confirmed as Interleague winners when word filtered through in the 6th inning that the Chunichi Dragons had defeated the Nipponham Fighters 4-1 in Nagoya. Seiya Hosokawa opened the scoring with a RBI double in the 1st inning and drove in a second run when his sacrifice fly capped a three-run 3rd. Takahiro Matsuba allowed just one earned run over 7 innings to earn his seventh win of the year. He also went 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored. A timely pinch hit double with the bases loaded by Shōsei Nakamura in the 4th inning flipped the lead and spurred the Hiroshima Carp to a 5-2 win over the Rakuten Eagles.
Ryoma Nishikawa had two RBIs in the Orix Buffaloes 4-2 defeat of the Yakult Swallows. Following a very impressive stint with the farm team, Swallows 1st Round Draft pick Yuto Nakamura made his NPB debut allowing one earned run in 5 innings but was saddled with the loss. The Seibu Lions scattered 14 hits while five different players, including starting pitcher Natsuki Takeuchi, drove in a run each in their 5-0 shutout win over the Yomiuri Giants. The Lotte Marines defeated the Yokohama BayStars 10-9 in the wildest game of the day that saw Trevor Bauer suffer his worst NPB outing, getting chased in the 2nd inning and being charged with seven earned runs in 1+ innings of work. He allowed eight hits and two walks against 12 batters on 41 pitches. American Rowan Wick made a late inning achievement by pitching an immaculate 8th inning (3 strikeouts on 9 pitches). Interleague play will conclude on Tuesday as the Marines host the Giants in a makeup game postponed from Tuesday 3 June.

A two-run double from Hiromi Oka in the 5th inning ultimately was the difference for the Lotte Marines in their 6-4 win over the Yomiuri Giants at ZOZO Marine Stadium. American southpaw Bryan Sammons struck out 6 batters over 5 innings while earning his third win in his debut season in NPB. Hayato Sakamoto went 3-for-5 including his first home run of the year in a losing cause for the Giants. But it was a historical night for the 36 year old veteran. His single to right field in the 9th inning was his third base hit of the game and hit number 338 in Interleague play, the most in Interleague history. Sakamoto, playing in his 19th season, broke the record of 337 hits held by Takumi Kuriyama, still active at age 41 who is in his 22nd campaign with the Seibu Lions. Sakamoto's three-hit performance was also his first modasho of the season and the 191st of his career, third on the all-time list. He is three away from tying Tetsuharu Kawakami for second place. Kawakami played from 1938-1958 and his modasho totals from the pre-NPB era of 1938-1949 are unofficial awards. (Giants legend Shigeo Nagashima, who recently passed away on 3 June, ranks fourth with 186 modashos)
The 20th edition of Interleague play ends with the Pacific League establishing the highest winning percentage in history with a .583 winning percentage (63 wins out of 108 games played) .583, 2025 Pacific League (63-2-43) .565, 2015 Pacific League (61-3-44) .563, 2010 Pacific League (81-4-59) .556, 2013 Pacific League 80-4-60) .556, 2016 Pacific League (60-1-47) It's also the 17th time the Pacific League has won the annual head to head series. The Central League has won the series three times (2009, 2021, 2022). Interleague games were not played during the covid-shortened 2020 regular season.

With Interleague completed, Intra-League play will resume on Friday and continue until the end of the regular season which is currently set for Thursday 2 October. The NPB All-Star Series will briefly interrupt proceedings on 23 and 24 July.
A liner into left field from Souma Uchiyama drove home Hidetaka Namiki from second base to give the Yakult Swallows a comeback 4-3 sayonara victory over the Hanshin Tigers at Meiji Jingu Stadium in Tokyo. The Swallows rallied for three runs in the 7th, capped by Jose Osuna's two-run home run to knot the score at 3-3. The win by the Swallows means that every team has now won at least 20 games this season. Earlier on Friday star slugger Munetaka Murakami began taking outdoor batting practice at the farm team facilities: "Of course there are good days and bad days, but I want to do what needs to be done and work hard to gradually return to the game." On Wednesday during a shareholders meeting, Swallows team president Tetsuya Hayashida said that if Murakami requests to be posted to MLB in the offseason they would honor his request. Murakami has only played one game so far this season while dealing with oblique issues.
A two-run double from Chusei Mannami in the 8th inning broke a 2-2 tie en route to a 5-2 win for the Nipponham Fighters over the Seibu Lions in Saitama. Yua Tamiya homered for the Fighters while Hiromi Itoh struck out 12 batters over 8 innings to pick up his eighth win of the year, tops in NPB. Lions ace starter Tatsuya Imai had 6 strikeouts with two outs in the 4th inning when he departed from the game after telling manager Fumiya Nishiguchi that he wasn't feeling well. Speculation was that Imai suffered heat stroke. The Belluna Dome is such that there are openings just behind the bleachers allowing outside air to circulate through, thus the venue has no air conditioning. Seiya Watanabe hit his fifth home run for the home team. First pitch was thrown by Daieishō Hayato, the first sumo wrestler from the Saitama Prefecture to win the Tennō shihai (Emperor's Cup, 2021). Hotaka Yamakawa blasted a grand slam in the 8th inning to power the SoftBank Hawks to a 6-3 win over the Lotte Marines in Chiba. Yamakawa's 10th homer of the year capped a five-run 8th that broke a 1-1 tie. Liván Moinelo fanned 5 over 7 innings to raise his record to 7-0. Atsuki Taneichi pitched very well for the Marines despite getting a no-decision, striking out 6 while walking just one
Jon Duplantier tossed 7 shutout innings to lead the Hanshin Tigers to a 2-0 win over the Yakult Swallows. Shota Morishita knocked his 12th home run of the year to account for the game's only runs. Suguru Iwazaki made quick work in the 9th inning to secure his 15th save of the season. Foster Griffin tossed 6 shutout innings lowering his ERA to 0.92 as the Yomiuri Giants blanked the Yokohama BayStars 5-0 at the Tokyo Dome. While Griffin raised his record to 5-0, his battery mate Yukinori Kishida went 4-for-4 including a double and two runs scored. Trevor Bauer, who allowed 13 baserunners including 6 walks, was chased in the 6th inning following a bases loaded triple from Louis Okoye, Bauer was 10-4 with a 2.76 ERA in his first season with the BayStars in 2023. Following a successful 2024 in LMB with Diablos Rojos del México, he returned to Yokohama this season but has found the going rough. He has had good moments, but since 6 June when he allowed just one earned run over 9 innings against the Nipponham Fighters Bauer has allowed 19 runs over his last four starts. Among qualified pitchers, Bauer's 4.13 ERA is currently the highest in NPB. “It's a mixture of frustration and depression. Everything I've tried has been unsuccessful. So I don’t know. I lead the Central League in strikeouts, but I’ve given up the most hits and the most runs. I don’t know how to rationalize those two things. I have elite swing-and-miss stuff, but every time I throw it in the zone, it gets hit. I try to throw more on the edges, I don’t get swings out of the zone, and I walk a lot of people. So then, as the game goes along, I try to throw more pitches in the zone, so I don’t walk people, and then everything is a hit. I don’t know what else to ... I’m completely lost, to be honest." He was asked if he's ever felt this frustrated and depressed before. “As far as baseball goes, no. I’ve always felt like I could compete my way out of it. I always felt like there was something I was building towards. I don’t really know what that is anymore. Yeah, no, I haven’t felt like this before.” BayStars pitching coach Shinji Ohara said after the game that he is not sure when Bauer will make his next start.
A two-run triple from Shinya Hasegawa in the 8th inning flipped a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead and victory for the Seibu L:ions against the Nipponham Fighters. Chihiro Sumida continued his strong campaign by striking out 10 batters over 8 innings for his seventh win of the year. The two runs Sumida conceded were solo home runs by Chusei Mannami (his 14th) and Shun Mizutani (number five).
Kota Tatsu tossed his first complete game of his three year career as the Nipponham Fighters defeated the Seibu Lions 2-1. Tatsu only gave up four hits, Tyler Nevin being the culprit by going 4-for-4 including his sixth home run of the year for the Lions. Nevin's solo bomb accounted for Tatsu's ERA climbing to 0.64 as the Fighters starter improved his record this season to 5-0. Overall, in the eight games Tatsu has pitched in since 2023 he is 6-0, a new Fighters record at the start of a career that was previously held by Shohei Ohtani (2013-2014). A bases loaded double from Rui Muneyama kick started a four run rally in the 2nd inning and the Rakuten Eagles were able hold on for a 4-2 win over the Orix Buffaloes to salvage a game from their weekend series in Osaka. Masaru Fujii pitched 7 innings to pick up the win despite allowing solo home runs to the first two batters he faced in the game, Ryoma Nishikawa and Yuma Mune.
Masashi Itoh allowed two hits while tossing the fifth complete game shutout of his career leading the Hanshin Tigers to a 6-0 blanking of the Yakult Swallows. Shota Morishita hit his 13th home run of the year while Teruaki Sato became the first player this season to reach 20 home runs with a solo blast in the 8th. 22 year old southpaw Ryunosuke Sato pitched 6 shutout innings in his NPB debut to help lead the Hiroshima Carp to a 2-1 victory over the Chunichi Dragons. Sandro Fabian drove in Hiroshima's two runs including a solo home run in the 4th inning, his 10th bomb of the year.
