The city of St. Louis was hit with severe storms and a likely tornado this afternoon. I understand there is significant damage NW of downtown between Fairgrounds Park and MLK along the St. Louis Avenue corridor, in the Central West End and Forest Park, and in Clayton. Several communities in the surrounding area also have damage. CITY's match this weekend is in St. Paul, Minnesota. Please keep the people in and around St. Louis in your thoughts.
Also, hoping @SetPeace is all right and wasn't in that storm's path. The videos of that storm are quite frightening to someone who didn't grow up in the midwest.
Thanks for the concern...the storms didn't impact me very much at all. I live about an hour NE of St. Louis in Illinois. The bad weather that ripped through parts of St. Louis continued eastward and impacted areas south of me. Prior to the rough stuff, there wasn't a cloud in the sky all morning and early in the afternoon. It was about 80 degrees. I finished mowing my yard at 1:30 and it was still sunny, when I got out of the shower at 2:05, it was cloudy. I watched all the weather reports on one of the St. Louis stations and saw the golf ball sized hail that hit parts of the city and western suburbs, accompanied by the heavy downpours. The roughest part of the weather didn't hit me until 3:15 when gusty winds blew around my patio furniture. I stepped outside briefly to secure things, and the rain was starting to come down sideways. All in all, it didn't last all that long at my place. By 4:00, the sun had come back out. At 5, I went outside and spent about 20 minutes picking up debris in my yard. It was quite shocking to see the mess left behind in some neighborhoods in the St. Louis area. Hope the injured people weren't hurt too seriously.
There were multiple deaths from the tornado. Old North St. Louis was hit hard, especially The Ville. In the middle of the awfulness, there is one story of hope. A man who was trapped for hours in his basement beneath unstable piles of rubble after his house collapsed was rescued by a dedicated team of firefighters and other first responders. St. Louis was only one of many places affected by yesterday's storms. A lot of people are hurting right now. I thought of the people we interact with regularly on these boards, and hope they are safe.
Wait, that was Neal on the right side who missed that tackle on the goal? He has really fallen off. I am majorly disappointed.
