MLS will be fine without him but the Messi effect has by no means worn off. Chicago set a club attendance record and sold out Soldier Field (62,358) when Miami played here last month. Their previous record was from...Miami visiting in 2023.
Wait, there's supposed to be some benefit from Messi? News to us in Colorado (And any number of other Western teams).
By worn off do you mean reduced, in which case yes, or do you mean gone, in which case let’s talk. The Crew doesn’t move its game to an NFL stadium without Messi. EDIT: and other examples people have posted about
Don't know how reliable this is Not my usual patch but a source at Chicago Fire has told me that the paperwork is signed and the deal is done. De Bruyne is off to MLS. https://t.co/KezYEhfQ0v— Leigh Kimmins McManus (@LeighMcManus1) May 20, 2025
🚨🔵 More on Kevin De Bruyne. Napoli have planned more contacts to try seal the agreement early next week, right after his final game with Man City.Three year deal on the table, package worth €27m salary in three years including signing fee.Decision expected by next week. pic.twitter.com/7hcaaa9A4j— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) May 25, 2025 It's over.
🕵️♂️ These are the MLS players to watch in the summer transfer window. Latest info on...🇺🇸 Patrick Agyemang🇦🇷 Luca Orellano🇺🇸 Brian Gutierrez🇻🇪 David Martinez🇺🇸 Quinn Sullivan🇺🇸 Alex Freeman& much morehttps://t.co/1pwpXW10mG— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) May 29, 2025 Not all will leave this window but this sucks. Seeing players leave while not peaking here isn't good for MLS, sportingwise. Moneywise I guess it is.
I said "not all will leave". But interest is there and it's a matter of time. Ligue 1 club Toulouse have made an offer for 24-year-old USMNT & Columbus Crew wingback Max Arfsten, which was rejected.USMNT defender Mark McKenzie also plays for Toulouse. pic.twitter.com/5vsV1jGWxJ— USMNT Only (@usmntonly) May 30, 2025
Some of them are on really low salaries so they'll be moving somewhere, even if it's within MLS. On the other hand Guttierez is probably on more than he'd get in a secondary European league.
Njabulo Blom's loan to Kaiser Chiefs expired, and they apparently didn't exercise their option. He reportedly is being U-Turned to St. Louis CITY SC, which likely will need to snag an international slot from MLS Mart to find a place for him.
Definitely. He is making close about $900k. No way he earns that in the Danish league or something. Maybe in Mexico or Italy, though.
🚨 Agreement between Luka Modrić and AC Milan over a one-year contract. ❤️🖤(Source: @repubblica) pic.twitter.com/453kZfwTp0— Transfer News Live (@DeadlineDayLive) June 3, 2025 I guess Serie A is a retirement league now? On a serious note, these type of signings were the norm in MLS. Don't know if it's good or bad these players are skipping MLS and choosing not to come here. The anti-MLS lose an opportunity to scream "retirement league" but fans and casuals miss an opportunity to see these type of players play here. They still would sell lots of jerseys, put butts on seats and eyeballs on the screen if they would come to MLS
I don't think players like Modric and de Bruyne have much pull in that way. Marginal benefits, maybe, but are LAFC and the Galaxy getting more attention because of Giroud and Reus? Modric and de Bruyne are a class above them in ability but not much different in terms of recognition in the United States.
Modric in MLS would’ve been cool. But once again the Serie A shows us age isn’t the huge deal or mark of shame some make it out to be.
The anti-MLS people scream "retirement league" when someone talks about potentially moving to MLS at some point in the indefinite future. Even if those players end up never coming to MLS, the anti-MLS crowd acts as if they did.
The same way act with PRO/REL, it was just an announcement from USL, I doubt it will happen, but those anti MLS proclaim that USL in better.
🚨🇨🇦 Anderlecht have sent official bid to Montreal for Canada international Nathan Saliba.Deal should be concluded at €2.7m including bonuses. pic.twitter.com/L8OqsUXgsw— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) June 5, 2025 Any Montreal fans here? As a fan is this what you all are looking forward to or actually try to win? Saputo will sell the player, make a profit and pocket the money. Wash, rinse and repeat. I really hope that CPL Montreal team that is going to start soon gives Montreal a team fans can really look forward to.
That's the beauty of it. Fans there will decide. If Saputo still wants to half ass it I don't doubt they'll start supporting the other Montreal IF they start on the right foot.
