https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/every-mls-call-up-september-2025-international-window This says 150, but I am with your point, not against it FYI. The MLS is improving and is only going to get better as they have the money to spend that other countries do not. 108 total called up to full national teams. The rest called up to youth camps. Some for World Cup qualifying in Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia.
He remains in my world cup roster. I really like him as a player. He's above Ream, Blackmon, Trusty in my book. Maybe even CCV. But I'm disappointed as a US fan that he's not challenging himself to grow at a higher level (I'm fairly certain he could get a contract with at least a mid-tableish club in a Top 5 league), but you can fault someone for taking the money. Especially someone with his injury history.
Not surprised he was convinced to see Cincinnati as more than a stepping stone, they’ve done so much right since entering the league.
That doesn't seems correct. Here is a list for this window and it's over 150 but about a third are youth team callups. By my count 98 players were called up to the full NTs. That's still a huge number. Maybe 206 is the number called up this year?
That sounds more accurate. It shouldn't be a surprise. We do know that MLS had the 6th most players at the 2022 World Cup. It was the top 5 Euro leagues and then MLS.
I have no idea where the dude came up with that number, but he was specific that he was talking about this two-game window.
That was a perfectly normal matchday after an international break. Shield leaders losing 7-0, Crew going up 5 goals in the first half and almost choking the game, etc. Any one of about 10 teams could win MLS Cup and I wouldn't be that surprised.
Dallas beat Austin 2-0. Really nice backheel assist from Logan Farrington on the first goal. [Musa now has the most goals in back-to-back seasons in FCD history.] 2nd goal was Bernie Kamungo just beating the entire Austin team with pace. Kind of a forgotten man after his USMNT appearance. An absurd backheel from Logan to set up the 🫎 pic.twitter.com/ITbPTkHryo— FC Dallas (@FCDallas) September 14, 2025
I think the injuries killed any European move. Cause he would have played every minute at the World Cup most likely had he not been injured and I think would have gotten a move off that (at the time he was playing for a very high level for the USMNT). Would be nice to see him make the World Cup roster given he was basically a lock last time around before he got injured.
Farrington shows how talent has elevated. I think 10-20 years ago he'd be getting callups but there are a lot of players ahead of him now.
He may be at January camp. Folks don't watch FCD, so they may not realize what a great season Musa is having. 15 goals and 6 assists. If Musa keeps playing like that, it'll be hard for Farrington to advance. Quill has found ways for them to both be on the field at the same time, but Musa is the "main man." For January camp there's Brian White, Darren Yapi..............and who? Musovski I guess. Musovski actually has the same number of goals as Brian White in fewer minutes. Iloski. Maybe I'd go with Iloski in January camp. .............but I remain convinced that if Farrington got a chance to the center forward starter on a week-to-week basis in MLS, he's do just fine. And hopefully Duncan McGuire comes back.....................
Sounders with a bit of a stinker in Miami. Second half (when subs were made too) was much better than the first. The broadcast mentioned it and locally it's been said that Sounders are really high on Snyder Brunell (who came in as a sub again and played pretty well in midfield). I expect he'll probably get a decent amount of MF minutes while Obed is at the u20 world cup and is probably the heir apparent as the 8 next to Cristian Roldan. One to potentially watch (he's 18 and had a ton of minutes with Defiance the last two years too).
I feel like that 3.5m salary is to some extent a calculated gamble that he'll make the WC roster. The other things is there's a pattern now that MLS is pretty much always willing to pay at least as much (often, as in this case, a good bit more; no European club that would actually play him is going to offer that kind of money) as the Euro competition is for any given level of player for that first move. To actually get paid by going to Europe, you have to go to the first club, maybe at a loss, make an impression, raise your perceived ability, and then re-sign or transfer somewhere else.
Maybe but Musa draws a lot of attention and without him teams could key on Farrington. Not sure he'd do if he was the guy. He really is a bit of a tweener and probably fits better with another forward. he sort of doing that now as a nominal winger that moves inside a lot interacts with Musa. He may get a chance because Musa must be drawing eyeballs in other leagues and FCD seems to always sell their best players as we're a AAA team for the world.
Blackmon goal and Berhalter penalty conversion in Vancouver’s Canadian Championship win against Forge. U.S. internationals staying productive. Blackmon injured late though unfortunately.
Though I think part of the problem for Robinson specifically is the injury really limited interest in him abroad. Compared to if he had gone to the World Cup and played well.
Seems that he's sprained his MCL. Expected out for at least 4 weeks. Definitely won't be called in to October camp.
Definitely. I think it's also easier for a younger person to make that choice. Let's say you're 19, and you make 175k in MLS, but you're coming into your own as a prospect. You get a European offer for 600k. MLS might well offer 750k to keep you, but 600k is already a big boost, so you might not think about the money you're 'giving up.' But for a mid-career guy it's more likely to be either going down in salary or be giving up your one big payday. Robinson was on 1.6m before. Might a Euro club have matched the former number? They might have, but this is his one real shot at a big payday at this point, being 28.
Agree and the young player has a lot of time to move up in teams and leagues while the veteran if the team that wants him is not in a top league then he may never make it and MLS might be very comparable or even a better league. Then of course the older you are the more likely family considerations enter the picture and wife and kids might not want to uproot for years.
Parallel to this, a lot of guys going abroad don't really get paid until their second or third contract. I looked up Chris Richards' salary, and those sites are notoriously inaccurate, but Robinson might be making about as much as him (Richards was listed at 2.8m GBP, which would be 3.8m USD). They list his contract as being up in 2027, which might mean this'll be his last year making the current figure (might be his last year at Palace too) but still.
NYCFC has signed USMNT GK Matt Freese to a contract extension through 2030.Freese had interest in Europe after Gold Cup breakout with USMNT this summer but stays in NYCFC on new deal as he'll have great chance to be the No. 1 GK at World Cup, I'm told. pic.twitter.com/DxDeVaco3y— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) September 19, 2025
