just be faster I guess? "People don't know what I can do. People just think I'm slow." "People don't know what I can do. People just think I'm slow."Jack McGlynn is aware of the outside perceptions. LAFC starting 5 USMNT eligible players (Long, Hollingshead, Tillman, Delgado, and Ebo) v Chelsea. Time for a big MLS upset, lets get a point at least!
Cristian Roldan pulls one back for @SoundersFC. GAME ON. pic.twitter.com/D0ZEFWw8mL— Major League Soccer (@MLS) June 16, 2025 Roldan scored last night in the Club World Cup. Seattle unlucky not to get a result and also not great with Atletico and PSG to come.
First half: Anyone watching LAFC v Chelsea should see the differences between tier 1 league and tier 2/3 league players. The tier 1 players are just slightly better in many aspects of the game, just enough to make a difference in the duels and outcomes. If Ebo was better in his hold up play LAFC could have done significant damage. The 1v1 plays that Bouanga bedevils MLS FBs with Reese James just takes in strides and takes the ball. Tillman has been aggressive attacking and his typical press resistant self but he has to work extra hard just to keep possession. One example: Tim in MLS can typically drop one or the other shoulder to slightly unbalance a defender then a quick left/right shimmy and he can spin away and keep possession. he tried that one time v Caicedo and at the end of his move Moise was still in his shirt and took the ball. Delgado has just disappeared with no impact on either side of the ball. Not sure if he is 100% fit?
I thought LAFC has acquitted themselves well all things considered. They’re not as good as Chelsea but no one expected that they would be.
Chelsea was better at every position. In order for LAFC to have had a chance they would have to get a A game from every single player. Delgado was better the 2nd half and Martinez was better in the 2nd half but his passing is poor. LAFC had their chances but did not take them. Giroud was better than Ebo. Bouanga's magic was not as magical against tier 1 players. I thought that Tim Tillman was LAFC's best player and Long more than held his own. Very proud of LAFC's effort against a clearly better side. A slight difference at every single position just adds up. If they play this intense and confident in their next 2 matches they have a chance to get out of their group.
The surface was unfair to the players. Also the atmosphere seemed odd and I was not surprised they remarked on the roof top being closed. It was indoor football.
Seattle won the xG battle by quite a bit. Really should have won that one. LAFC performed fairly decently, losing to Chelsea 2-0 and in terms of xG, closer to 2-1.
Miami has been probably the worst of the three MLS teams in terms of performance so far. It’s also I think more interesting to see how the MLS teams compare versus some of the other non European teams as we know an LAFC isn’t comparable to a Chelsea with a disproportionately larger wage bill and transfer budget.
The surface was terrible with players slipping. I hope they do better with the grass over turf for the World Cup next year.
xG can tell you about the quality of shots but it can't tell you about the quality of the match played by both sides. Chelsea is a better squad but LAFC certainly gave them a run for their money. LAFC got a lot of looks that they wanted but Chelsea's step up in quality showed. Some highlights. Tillman who had a very good match gets beat on the Fernandez run for the 2nd goal.
Big numbers from Roldan(CM in 4231) in the 2-1 loss to Brasileiro Serie A Champions, Botafogo 1 goal 3 key passes 65/76 passing 2/2 crosses 12/17 duels 0/4 fouls/fouled 11 recoveries SofaScore(8.4)MOTM Also, good numbers for 45 minutes of work from Baker-Whiting(LWB in 343)) who replaced Tolo(5.9 16th) in the formation switch at the half. 2 key passes 22/24 passing 4/5 ground duels Sofascore(7.4)3rd
Delgado's job was to stop Palmer. I had a TLDR that wouldn't post then disappeared twice so I"ll give up on the longer comment on this game. On a side note the ball wasn't rolling well over the ground but the air balls were finding hang time joy in the closed dome atmosphere which must be heaven for Atlanta's NFL punters. See Jesus' at 7:00 of hilites and Marky's at 11:00
Look at his left footed pass to Hollingshead up the left flank at 8:40 of your hi lites. He usually doesn't play on the left.
Inter Miami beats Porto 2-1 starting Cremaschi, Frey, and Allen. In fairly decent position to advance. Seattle up next against Atletico but that first game really killed their chances of getting out of the group (where they really should have gotten a result).
I called my son up to watch Messi's FK just outside the D because it seems like he nuts those shots 75% of the time and sure enough.... perfect. Side-netting. The dude is unreal.
there is irony in that a big reason Miami performed better was inserting 2 homegrown players in Ian Frey and Benja Cremaschi into the lineup in place of 2 constantly underperforming really hyped u-22 players in Frederico Redondo and Toto Aviles
As good as the youngsters were for Miami, thought Reid Baker-Whiting and Obed Vargas had rough games today for Seattle. Some bright moments, but got bodied by Atleti quite a bit.
