The other two USMNT-relevant goals that were decent, Agyemang and Gutierrez... unfortunately Agyemang should have had another earlier on that if it was with the USMNT would've have us quite frustrated with him 1923909875202986421 is not a valid tweet id 1923911103488090584 is not a valid tweet id
Looking forward to a LAFC beatdown of LA Gals in their El Traffico matchup tonight. Last chance for T Tillman or Delgado to impress enough to sneak into the GC roster?
Typical engaging El Trafico match. Neither USMNT midfielder were impressive although Delgado did get an assist on Denis's Golazo strike. Dolo pulled them both starting at 69 and leading 2-1. Delgado had a yellow and Tillman looked tired. Hopefully they spring back for the $10M CWC play in v America on June 1.
Good Athletic story on Freeman 1924489418074657033 is not a valid tweet id Who I hope we see on the Gold Cup roster.
One player of note from MLS on other preliminary rosters. Dante Sealy of Montreal on T&Ts roster. Makes sense. Good luck to him against everyone other than the US. 1924538006922227759 is not a valid tweet id
Sure, but his father is a T&T international. ...............he was fringe with the U17s and U20s. He hasn't gotten a cap of any kind since the U20s in 2021. So, the timing seems right for him to choose T&T.
I figured he was heading for T&T when the PSV move flamed out. I wish him well because he’s still an American player.
By the way, his father was a national youth scout for the USSF for a while. I don't know if he still is. He could be. He also has obtained his USSF "A" coaching license, and last I knew was running a training facility in Texas. So at least of late, the Sealy family has had more connection to the USSF than the T&T federation (which has been an absolute mess for a while.) Dante's really a Texan. We'd claim him for the Texas national team. Started in the FC Dallas academy as a 9 year old in 20212. Was part of FC Dallas from 2012 to 2024 (with the loan to PSV in the middle). He was there a long time. He started in the FCD academy at the same time as the Jesus Ferreira generation. Just part of the massive purge at FCD this off-season. Like a total reset. So far the result of that purge is "meh." They have a lot of work to do on that roster. But with that purge, they still have a ton of assets to work with.
There's a bit of *hole factor on this iteration of USMNT so I'm kinda glad Delgado wasn't on the lists. I'd rather see him work on America game, CWC, MLS Cup in that order. After having to watch the horsebleep going on with Galaxy (don't ask) last year, it's really great to see the guy playing happy with LAFC and Dolo and doing better every week. He really didn't need an interruption for Gold Cup and there's tons of mids to sort thru anyway. Unfortunately, we might lose Tilman to GC but we'd still have him for America game. I'm not sure Amaya is at Timmy's level defensively, esp for CWC, but he seems to have a pretty good offensive game. Maybe they have to tweak the structure a little for Amaya? Dunno.
Anyone whose team is in the Club World Cup can’t be called up for the Gold Cup. So if LAFC qualify Tillman is out and Delgado would have been also.
I owe you a mea culpa on Delgado. I know he is a player you have been high on for years. I did not see it but after watching him at LAFC he just does everything well. The kind of glue player you need on a successful team.
LAFC are fifth in the west at 1.57 PPG with Delgado when they were first in the west with a 1.88 PPG last year without Delgado?
LAFC made significant changes to their squad from last year. Off the top of my head: Sold Bogusz (15+Gs) to Liga MX Did not re-sign The Professor Ilie their controlling DM. Sold Olivera 6Gs to SA. Martinez has not yet picked up the slack. Atuesta also gone. Did not reup Murillo Long's best partner and Marlon is not the same 1v1 defender. Tillman s offense is down from last year Denis has had a slow start to season but is now starting to cook. Delgado IMO has prevented a worse slide.
I didn't know that. I thought it was club's decision. Seems weird a club can't let one of their guys go win a trophy for their country, even if they don't need him for CWC. Hard to understand. ps. edit: scratch that. I get it. FIFA $$$
Yeah FIFA has put a lot into the CWC and they’ve put a big prize on the table money wise to entice the European clubs. They are desperate for this to be a big competition so it takes precedent over everything else.
Ream subs in and has a really poor clearance, basically serving it across the mouth of the goal for Jackson Hopkins tying goal. If he had never made a play on the ball at all it would have rolled away but he was panicky. Some dude named Jordan Farr made four saves out of five in the shootout for the DC win. I love the Open Cup.
What's crazy about how bad Ream has been is it's not just the physical limitations of an old man, he's making questionable to terrible decisions... but hey "veteran leadership" see you at the World Cup in a year
It really looks like his time has passed. I just can’t with him at the WC, absolutely shouldn’t happen.
That was his reputation for years, that he’s error prone,he had a decent World Cup and people seem to have forgotten about his long career
I mean this also coincided with him playing at a very good level in the EPL. Where Pep was telling him if he was 10 years younger he’d be playing for him.
...................and Ream may not have made the World Cup roster at all if Richards and Miles hadn't gotten hurt. He'd been out of the squad for a long time. We'd left him at the side of the road. Hadn't played a match for the USMNT in more than a calendar year before our opening game of the World Cup. Didn't even play in a single one of our tune-up games. Events completely conspired for him in that World Cup, and he really did perform well. Also, from what we understand, provided leadership.
