I thought Tillman showed well. Good movement and hard to get off the ball as usual. There was a Cristian Roldan shaped hole in the Sounders midfield. I think they should have kept Atencio because he’s the closest thing to Cristian they had on the roster. Maybe Snyder Brunell can step up. Jesus didn’t show too much but see above. The number one way the 10 gets the ball in Seattle is that Cristian passes him the ball in good positions Edit to add. A nice run and finish from Ebobisse. It’s nice to see him back from concussions/ San Jose. He’s a solid pro, and the missed Olympics might have been his last chance to make an impact for the USMNT. Of course he could turn into Wondo and I’ll revisit this opinion.
This is why it’s ridiculous to suggest Cristian is a role player on a team where he’s closer to irreplaceable. Kosa-Rienzi showed good athleticism and determination but he isn’t showing me anything beyond a Nick Lima so far. Thomas hasn’t exactly staked a claim but he needs more run to really show.
Tim is a full on 8 I’d say and as I said before, I’d give him some of the Musah minutes because he can complete passes at an acceptable level while giving you a lot of the ball retention.
Amaya is in the rotation with that good performance (especially considering he just arrived). He was with RedBull 3 years which I consider a plus. Do you have any idea if LAFC would hire Vanney if he gets fired from Galaxy? I haven't heard anything about when Dolo actually wants to leave other than end of season but ofc things might change if the right guy comes along and they want to nail him down. What's your opinion of Vanney for LAFC?
Sofascore US Team of Midweek * = 23-and-under ** = 20-and-under Player of the Midweek: Barreza CJdSantos McGlynn U23-and-under: McGlynn BLeroux Westfield U20-and-under: Westfield OWolff Valenzuela JBartlett
Leroux: too much for Busquets and Miami's central midfield? Westfield: now the starter at RB for the Union, with Harriel(7.1)6th moved to CB? McGlynn: offers set mastery, but is still top-10 in non-set piece-related key passes. OWolff has matured into a lock starter with Austin.
Ben Olsen made a brilliant choice moving McGlynn to an inverted RAM. That move maximized McGlynn's strengths will shielding him from the defensive responsibilities of a CM. I did not watch the Houston match but may catch a replay later today. The highlights should give a sense of the 7 chances that McGlynn created.
Freese was 3rd, barely behind 2nd, in psxg+/-, before yesterday's game where he had 1.19 goals prevented. Celentano pitched another shutout. Not everything's encapsuled in psxg+/-. Still his is well into the positives. And he's the all-time pts per game leader among MLS keepers. So the league's producing viable options for us to try over what we have. Half of the top keepers are Americans of a variety of ages. Notably, CJ Dos Santos is still only 24, & has enjoyed a breakout.
McGlynn is the modern Preki. A left foot so dangerous that even knowing that and doing everything possible to stop it danger still happens.
Dolo is leaving at the end of the season, hopefully with a trophy or 2. Last week he gave more details. I don't believe there is a snowball's chance in hell that Vanney will be LAFC's next manager. “I just feel like the next step, reconnecting with the European game and coaching in Europe, is something that I would like to do,” said Cherundolo, who is returning to Germany, where he starred as a player. “The timing of it and the messaging, I think the sooner the better so we can all kind of plan and move forward and get it out of the way and focus on this season’s goals. https://www.latimes.com/sports/socc...eve-cherundolo-explains-why-hes-stepping-down
It’s basically the same way he used I wonder if he would try to bring Timmy home if he gets a job in the 2BL.
Meant to say, it seems like Houston is using McGlynn in a similar role to Carrasquila. I don’t watch them regularly enough to say with authority.
I don't think so. Coco was played as a central midfielder with Arthur and Hector Herrera. McGlynn started at CM but was moved to AMR 5 or 6 matches ago and has found his grove. All credit to Bel Olsen who appears to have taken a page from the Ancelotti move of Pirlo!
Alex Freeman No U-23 player has won more duels than Alex Freeman in the MLS so far this season (78).The 20-year-old Orlando City right-back is having a wonderful campaign. The future of the USMNT. 🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/86hRy9IIP5— Football Talent Scout - Jacek Kulig (@FTalentScout) May 16, 2025
Interestingly the article says he doesn’t have Canadian citizenship but they’d fast track it for him via the government. I believe he’d also run into the issue where you need to live in a country for five years after 18 under FIFA rules and this is only his fourth season in Vancouver.
Is COL (Stefffen, Djordje, Basset, Larraz) v RSL (Luna, Eneli) the neutrals choice for USMNT flavors watching today?
Gutierrez and Ageymang both find the net today. Agey's first non penalty goal in 2 months EDIT: Right as I type that Guti hits a penalty for #2
Enjoying Austin v Vancouver with Wolf v Berhalter. They are really going at each other. IMO, Wolf has been better.
Jack McGlynn banger! GOOOOOOOOOLAZOOOO Jack McGlynn.Has to be the sweetest left foot in the league.Holy smokes.#doop #holditdown📹: Apple | MLS pic.twitter.com/LluhjdyrMa— José Roberto Nuñez (@JoserNunez91) May 18, 2025
