you can have your opinion on that, but nothing has changed my opinion since the January camp game where Tillman and co. Did nothing till McGlynn subbed on and changed the game. Both McGlynn and Berhalter have above average soccer IQ and vision to complement their passing skills. I like Tillman as a ball winner; I like the way he reads plays and hunts down the ball. Really all four of these players are quite different from each other bringing different strengths and weaknesses.
I think with Freeman with his athletic traits and the overall weakness at the position, if someone from MLS who has never been with the team before is going to surge and make the World Cup team its most likely to be him.
McGlynn is basically the same guy Klinsman took to Qatar instead of Donovan. His name was so ordinary it's impossible to recall. He played for Houston.
McGlynn may not have the athleticism for the most elite level of the sport. But damn, that guy may be the best free kick/corner kick taker in the pool. Great vision. Helluva left foot. [The reasons that Philly gave up on him are the same reasons that he may not be right for Poch's system against elite opposition.] If there's a currently uncapped player that's going to make the WC squad, my bet would be its at fullback. Where our depth of established players is weakest after the starters, and where we have some fast risers. [I'm obviously not including uncommitted dual-nats in that.] I personally don't think its particularly likely that a currently uncapped player makes the rosters, but there are certain positions in which its more likely. Some fast-rising GK is another. I don't know who exactly that would be, but there's an opportunity.
I believe the VAR call was that Vcr got ball on that suspected foul. What do you think of switching sides for Tilman/Delgado? I get the feeling Martinez may get benched as a starter from the way things have gone lately. Delgado is pretty good at getting those wingers and fb's going on the right side if they are bought in to his system and stick with it - Hasler, Laryea, others at Toronto, Yamane and Pec at Gal's, e.g. At the same time he can get the ball to Bouanga from the right side with good effect albeit less frequently than from the left. I wonder if tilman has a better left foot that could be more useful getting the ball to Bouanga but I'm not sure. Do you know if he has problems playing left mid?
You can also have your opinion but T Tillman and McGlynn have never been in the same USMNT match. T Tillman was in the January 2024 camp and started along side Diego Luna, B White, and Aiden Morris. Tillman was US Soccer MOTM Not just US Soccer: https://sbisoccer.com/2024/01/sbi-usmnt-man-of-the-match-timothy-tillman
Timmy can play on either side, they switch during the match and Bouanga also switches. Timmy can also pass off the dribble with his left see: 4:21
yes, nice shape on that one. I guess I was wondering if there was a history with Tilman and Bouanga and that is why they have Delgado on the left and Tilman right.
I like Tim and think he’s a more complete player than some of the guys who’ve played over him. He and Luca De La Torre are in the same league now and I don’t think LDLT is outperforming him.
that’s the match. McGlynn came on in the 61st minute along with Bajaktarevic and McGuire. After those subs the US found a pulse.
McGlynn is plenty dangerous during run of play also. I don’t want the narrative to be that all he’s good at is deadball situations
He probably missed his moment but would have been useful at the last World Cup. Particularly given it seems like LDLT was not even fit enough to play and we needed someone to soak up minutes at the 8 since McKennie couldn’t do 90. But this cycle seems like he’s more likely just to be at January camps and not much more.
T Tillman is not playing as well from a end product perspective, as he was last year before his injury. He has to pick it up and likely it is already too late for a GC slot. My LAFC hosts your Seattle this evening. Should be a good one for the neutrals to enjoy with lots of USMNT hopefuls on display.
The problem for Tilman is that the 10 spot is getting crowded. I'd take Tim over Malik as long as I see work product from him. I'd certainly take him over McKennie who failed badly for Juventus at the 10 according to reports. The other pretenders to the throne are Brenden and Luna and Milejvic, I guess, if Gio is out of the pitcture. That's a lot of CAM's. I'm looking forward to the Seattle game. Don't get why fans seem to think Gal's game on the week-end is bigger. Steve gonna crush Galaxy; Seattle are a tougher customer.
like I said, everyone has their own opinion. McGlynn was my MOTM/ most interesting player, not the other two. It makes sense to me the McGlynn has caught the eye of Poch.

Hopefully you watched the match. Loved the much more aggressive Tillman and LAFC. Frankie Amaya looked very good, he will be a great pickup.
Seattle played a pretty heavily rotated lineup (this means we'll beat Portland on the weekend right???) and just got crushed (LAFC did this in our home match and we won 5-2). Ferreira has had a really poor season this year so far which doesn't help but the main thing this match highlighted is how much we really lean on Roldan the older and Obed holding it down in midfield. Thomas having a poor game in goal didn't help either but this is a far cry from our best setup right now. Kalani Kossa-Rienzi had a pretty solid match against Bouanga though, I'll take that small victory.
I'm assuming this game didn't help and even before it Andrew Thomas was one of the worst GKs in the league this season, along with Earl Edwards and Thomas Hasal... no Americans are really standing out at the good end of the spectrum now that Steffen has fallen back down to earth, he's the third best American after old man Sean Johnson and Schulte. The others are all pretty much bunched up in the middle... nothing to write home about. Not ideal over 1/3 of the way through the season.
